Theater 3D -- in a Television from Vizio
Written: Jan 13 '12
Pros:stunning images, 2D or 3D viewing, Bluetooth remote, 4 sets of 3D glasses
Cons:no ports on television front; heavy; not recommended to move it with one person
The Bottom Line: Fantastic 3D images on an easy-to-view screen. Vizio created a great package with this edge-lit Razor LED television.
Our company works with 3D technology and needed an in-house television display to reflect glorious 3D vision. This Vizio 65” 3D LED TV – Model # XVT3D650SV is doing a great job.
(Note that the product title says 64”, which is incorrect … the detailed description lists the correct size at 65”. The carton the television came in also lists it as a 65” screen.)
Description
This Vizio 3D HDTV incorporates circular polarized 3D technology to enable more comfortable and flicker-free viewing. The screen is a 64.5-inch widescreen that is edge-lit LED and has 1080p resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate for both 2D and 3D. The manufacturer uses SRS TruSurround HDTM and SRS TruVolume audio in this television with internet Apps and built-in dual-band 802.11n WiFi. There are five HDMI ports for connectivity. A nice addition is the Bluetooth universal remote control that has a slide-out QWERTY keypad. Also included are four sets of 3D glasses. Overall, the television measures (with stand) 60.9” wide x 40.9” high x 16” deep. This set is Mercury free.
The box includes one television with stand, Bluetooth remote control with two AA batteries, four sets of 3D polarized glasses, power cable, safety cable, cleaning cloth, a Quick Start Guide and User Guide.
More detailed specifications are toward the end of this review.
Our Experiences
We have been using this Vizio display for over six months. Everyone who views 3D imagery on this monitor does the classic double-take or presents a “wow!” face. The picture is phenomenal. We don’t use this as a television. Instead, we have hooked the display up to view 3D movies featuring our product line, most of the clips created by us for use with clients. People walk away impressed, which is our goal.
In case you are wondering, the manufacturer says that the circular polarized Theater 3D technology delivers a fifty-percent brighter image with one half the visual cross-talk distortion. We appreciate the quality picture. It offers great light and dark contrasts, displaying a lot of detail. Despite fast-moving images, there is no pixilation or blurring effect. Imagery is vivid, and the color is terrific. The LED presents visuals that are easy on the eyes so there is less eye strain. No one has complained of a “bad seat”, easily able to watch the screen. Plus, the sound is good and clear from the two speakers at the bottom front of the television.
The remote is not as streamlined as other remotes I’ve used. Then again, this one has the slide out keyboard. It offers pretty much the standard options plus some extras: on/off, volume, navigation arrows, Menu button, mute, buttons to change input and external devices, Guide to display episode guide, VIA for the internet Apps, 3D button to activate 3D content. The remote buttons are also arrange in the universal format with the power, A/V and input controls up top, the menu and arrow buttons toward the center, and beneath those the volume and channel selection, and the numerical buttons at the bottom. The QWERTY keyboard not only has the alphabetic keyboard with arrows, but also some special buttons such as one that controls screen size and another to view the current App settings.
When viewing in 3D, it is necessary to wear special glasses. You may remember bygone days of cardboard “glasses” with red and blue lenses. Fashion enters the 21stcentury. The four sets of glasses that come with this set have black frames with smoke-like tinted lenses and look like sunglasses. They are lightweight and easy to wear. Best yet, two of the glasses are designed to fit over prescription glasses for more comfortable viewing.
The Quick Guide offers lots of illustrations and step-by-step setup instructions. Basically, place the television on a flat surface. Plug the power cord into the television and then an electrical outlet. Then connect any the HDMI devices such as a Blue-ray player. (Note that all the ports are on the back of the set.) Insert the batteries into the remote control. Press the Power/Standby button on the remote and follow the initial setup prompts. I recommend having the instructions that came with the television handy for reference.
This is a large piece of equipment and needs dedicated space on a sturdy table or piece of furniture. It requires at least two people to handle moving and placing it. This Vizio display does not stay in one location within our offices. It travels, not only from room to room, but to outside locations where a large 3D display is required. We kept the sturdy box for transport. With over six months of movement, this television still looks like new and works perfectly.
Purchasing
We bought this television locally at an amazing sale price of about $2,500.00.
