| katerit2001's Full Review: 24 Hour Fitness |
I used to work for 24 Hour Fitness in Colorado when I was in College. I was a member for 2 years before I became an employee. I used to spend a lot of time working out and when It came time for me to change jobs, I decided why not become an employee of 24 hour Fitness? Here is some of the facts I discovered as an employee.
Sales:
I was in the sales department for over two years. I've read many review that state the sales staff is "high pressure" and you are right they are. I was taught many sales techniques to make sure that the potential member does not leave without buying a membership. This is taught to the sales staff. You would think they were selling cars or something! We would tell people that there are many options that they can choose from and there are but hre are the basic memberships:
One Club Membership-this has a lower monthly dues rate but this is only valid at one location. You may transfer this membership to another location but there is a fee to do it.(yea it is a way to make them more $ by changing a transfer fee)
All Club Membership-this membership is good at all the clubs that 24 hour fitness has. If you are traveling, you can use one of their clubs without any hassel or paying a fee to do so.
Keep-Fit-Plus Membership- This is the BIG-DADDY membership.(the most expensive)This membership includes their 24/5 program. This 24/5 program is a personal training program designed by Apex to help you achieve your goals. you will work directly with a personal trainer for 6 sessions. This is a great program but after the 6 sessions are over, you ususally find yourself spending more money for more sessions. This is great if you will actually follow the program, but don't do it if you are not ready to make a change, it will be a waste of time and money. If you do decide to go with this membership do the pre-paid option. This will save you a lot of money. But be weary, if you are planning on moving anytime in the following 2-3 years do not do this option. You will not get any money back. They may tell you that you will, but here is how it works. The membership agreement states that you can cancel the pre-paid membership if you move. In doing so, you will ONLY receive prorated dues back and they will subtract a move fee. In the end you are lucky to walk away with much at all because the prorated dues on this membership are so low. The bulk of the cost of this membership is in th processing and enrollment fees that you will not get back.
If you hate sales people but you want to become a member of a great club but a 24 Hour Fitness membership online! You will find that the prices on-line are the same and often times less expensive!!!
Personal Training:
Most of the personal trainers are very well educated. All of the trainers at my club had a four year degree in the fitness field, but I know that not all the trainers at all the clubs are the same. Ask to see teh credentials of the trainer that you choose. All of their info is supposed to kept on file in the club.
The Personal Training program that 24 Hour Fitness offers is awesome-if you follow it of course. 24 Hour Fitness uses the 24/5 program. There are 5 components that make up this program. 1-Nutrition,2-Supplementation, 3-resistance training, 4-cardio training, 5-assistance, or you personal trainer. I myself went through this program when I was a member and i had awesome results. I would definatly recommend this program for anyone that wants to make some serious progress. Make sure you follow the nutrition as close as you can if you want to see results. The supplements will help, but of course you have to spend extra money. I didn't buy any supplements and I still had great results.
Other Club info:
The cleanliness of the club I was at was great. The clubs that are in Colorado are fairly new clubs. I think this explains the clenliness and the maintenance of the equipment. it seems that the older club that are in cali are kept up very well.
The club genrerally is not too crowded except for prime time hours of 5:00-7:00pm. I think this greatly varies on location. If you want to try the club out for a day or two to see how busy it is, you can cancel within 3 days of joining and get all your money back if you want to cancel. Often tiems, the person selling the membership will not tell you this. so, if you find that once you join, you hate it because the club you are at is too crowded, cancel and make sure you get a copy of that cancellation form for your records.
Overall, I think 24 Hour fitness has a lot to offer. I now live in an area that is too far away from a health club, and I work out at home which is very hard to keep motivated to do so. I loved being a member at this health club and I think it is one of hte best health clubs around. If you do not want to deal with the sales staff, just buy a membership on line and avoid the sales pitch!
