My 24 hour fitness experience has been a complete nightmare. I could deal with water on the locker room floor, that it's crowded no matter what time I go, and even that the tread on the elliptical trainers are coming off. What I wish I'd been warned about however was that the quality of the trainers and instructors who are a total fraud. Group exercise instructors require no experience and learn their skills in weekend workshops. The class instructors are mixed in ability and constantly make announcements about how you can buy their products. The salespeople intimidate you into buying a personal training package. My experience with this was very bad. First, they made me pay upfront for the personal training, telling me I needed at LEAST 18 sessions to see results-I just wanted to learn good form for some resistance training exercises. They took my body fat reading and said I was clinically obese and that I "must" buy some of their supplements to "get my body fat down to a healthy level because my liver was malfunctioning". That sent me into a panic, since I have healthy eating and exercise habits already, and I am quite trim. My "trainer" had flabbier arms, legs, and abs than I did. I went to see my doctor for a thorough checkup, and had my body fat remeasured. It turned out that they had taken my body fat measurement incorrectly giving a much higher number than I actually had, that I had no sign of liver dysfunction, and that the supplements they were prescribing were actually dangerous. The scary thing is they have all their bases covered-you cannot return unopened supplements, cannot sue them for physical or "mental" injury, nor can you cancel the personal training if it's more than 3 working days from when you signed up-that's not enough time to try out even one training session. Unfortunately I paid a flat fee in advance, so all that money is now wasted. I got fleeced-please make sure you don't.
