| nommo77's Full Review: 24 Hour Fitness |
I work nights and like to go to the gym at odd hours, sometimes when I get off work at 7 am, sometimes before I go to work at 11 pm. I was very overweight when I joined and was initially intimidated by the beautiful bodies that are bountiful at 24 hour fitness, but I got over that. People were very encouraging and gave me a lot of advice. I figure I am there to look better, so there is no reason for them to judge me.
It can be crowded during the busy times, but I find there is so much equipment that it is not an issue for the aerobic machines, but the weight room can be very busy and intimidating. A lot of very muscular people there!
Since going to 24 hour fitness, I have lost almost 40 lbs and feel toned and strong. I love working out, and go to yoga class regularly in addition to the weights, elliptical and treadmill. My gym also has a pool which is wonderful as well. Plus, there is nothing better than resting in the sauna after a workout. The gym is clean and well kept and generally if there is a problem with the equipment they fix it right away.
A word of advice: keep an eye out for their specials. They have them all the time so never take the first package they offer. It changes and deals differ from month to month. When I first joined they tried to get me to pay $900 dollars to get a membership that allowed me to go to any gym, anywhere in the US. I opted to join just my neighborhood gym. A year later they had a special and for $4 more a month and $70 down, I got the membership that allows me to go to any gym, and now go to 3 area gyms regularly for classes, the pool, and variety. I have even used out of state gyms while on vacation.
Complaints: they push their products and expensive training packages on you. Parking can be terrible at peak hours. Some of the people can be snotty. They never change the channels on the TV's and sometimes 3 or 4 TV's next to each other will be playing the same show, usually sports or news, which at 8pm when prime time shows are on can be a pain.
The trainers all do the same thing, so it is not an individualized workout for your body and needs. I went to 2 different trainers and they both did the same thing with me.
