| devila's Full Review: 24 Hour Fitness |
At 5' 7 1/2" and 186 pounds with no energy, just a full time job & part time school, it was time for a change. About 5 years ago I went to 24 hr fitness to "check out the prices" and thought it was wayyyy to pricey, so pricey I can not remember what I was told. Times have changed a bit and there are tons of 24 Hour Fitness gyms opening everywhere which supposedly helps reduce the price.
Earlier this month I finally made it into the gym. I had an appointment to speak with a sales rep. Not pushy at all. The most enjoyable sales experience yet. They had a deal going on where you could have the initiation fee waived which was about $70 or so. This was if you were to pick the month-to-month plans, which I totally DO NOT recommend. It ranges around $36 a month (to be able to visit any 24hr Fitness). So, I told my rep if I got a month-to-month I would probably just eventually stop coming (and of course they would make more when I rejoined). He showed me the prepaid plans which I really needed. I ended up getting the 36 month one for $699. Included was a neat little Solutions Nutri-kit which had samples of there vitamins, energy bars/meal replacement snacks. I also got 5 FREE personal training sessions which were absolutely great, I was weighed, fat measured, sizes taken and even a meal plan and estimate on how long it would take me to meet my goal. With the 36 months being pre-paid it ended up coming out to about $19.41 a month (if it were figured monthly). The best thing, after my 3 years are up, I only have to pay $49 a year (I have it in writing). With all the boring work done, I was ready to hop on a few machines and work my way to fitness.
The busiest days of this club (Manhattan Beach, CA) are Monday and Tuesday until around 8pm. Even at the peak time you can usually still find an open machine. The elliptical seems to be the most popular. Before you begin, a good sports bra and comfy clothing is a must. There are people of all ages and sizes so, no reason to be ashamed. Staff is readily available for any questions. There are clearly noticeable with their red shirts.
The only thing I'm concerned about is the fact they do not enforce the towel rule. You move hard enough and long enough, you sweat and leave it on the machines. I've encountered a few sweat puddles and quickly ran to a drier one. Tonight I was watching a big guy in front of my on the bike just sweating away (of course no towel) he literally made a little puddle on the floor. Not only gross but a potential health hazard (may cause nausea or fall).
