Pros: Convenient, good location
Cons: *Steep, inflexible cancellations fees *My location closed at 8 PM on Sundays
The Bottom Line: If they need 90 days notice of cancellation for you to not have to pay extra, they should say this instead of claiming its 30 days

So, I just found out I'm moving to Korea next week for an indeterminate amount of time.
I remember reading that 24 Hour Fitness required 30 days notice before cancellation, so I figured I'd have to pay for those 30 days; no surprise there. I'm also used to getting taken for all I'm worth, so I assumed that it would be 30 days plus the rest of the month when the 30 days elapses. Fair enough.
But 24 Hour Fitness took it one step further.. If you actually read the fine print
"6(c). Termination of Monthly Membership: If you have a monthly membership, you may terminate it at any time upon (1) written notice to 24 Hour and (2) return of your membership ID card when your membership ends. Notice of termination must be received at least 30 days before your Electronic Functs Transfer (EFT) bill date. If your termination notice is not received at least 30 days before your EFT bill date, your EFT dues end the second month following the month 24 Hour receives written notice. 24 Hour will apply your last month dues to your last month."
Translation: Not only do I have to pay for the rest of this month, and the entire month after that, but the "last month's fee" I paid when I registered won't count for that. The man on the phone cheerfully explained to me that (since I have to pay for it anyway) I can continue to use the gym until January 28. Mind you, today is November 5. So we're talking nearly 3 whole months I have to pay for, even though I explained to them I'm moving to Korea next week. What a rip! Why do they need ANY notice in the first place? Its not like an apartment where they are going to take a loss while they find someone to 'replace' me.
Sufficed to say, when I move back to the USA and start looking for a gym, 24 Hour Fitness will NOT be given any consideration.
