| tikei's Full Review: Bally Total Fitness |
I joined Bally's back in Feb 1997. Within a month of working out, I couldn't figure out why I was having chest pains. My cardiologist diagnosed me with heart disease and told me not to work out alone. He wrote a letter on my behalf to Bally's. I submitted it to Bally's to get out of my contract via the disability clause. To sum up the mess, Bally's employees "lost" letter after letter from my doctor in an attempt to get me to pay the $2500 for my 3-year membership. They lied about "miscommunications" and had no record of my ever complaining of a health problem. In April 1999, I got a lawyer to make some calls with me and they finally decided to listen. I had to have my doctor write more letters stating that he wrote letters in 1997 regarding my health condition (confusing, is it not?). Everything had to be sent certified mail so that Bally's wouldn't "lose" anymore paperwork or "not have any record in the computer".
So I warn all of you: Watch out before you sign any contracts with Bally's! They will try and hold you to it, even if you have a legitimate excuse and proof that you can terminate your membership without penalty.
