Pros: young crowd, lots of classes, nice setup, fairly clean, high on the gay scene
Cons: EXPENSIVE, short trial period
The Bottom Line: I can't imagine going to any other gyms. I just wish there was at least one CRUNCH gym in BROOKLYN.

I've been with Crunch gym for more than two years now and have loved every minute of it. There are tons of free weight to work for bodybuilding and strengthening. There is always a treadmill, eliptical, or stationary bike free to use. At most of larger Crunch gym, there is at least one class available every other hour.
RATES: If you are joining on a monthly basis, it is anywhere from $80-90. There is another catch that I've recently found out. If you sign up on a monthly basis, you are stuck in a minimum of a year contract. If you sign on a one or two year contract and pay the full amount, the price will ranges anywhere from $1300-1799. Don't let the sales people fool you into thinking that the price range is different between the various locations because its pretty much the same at all of the locations.
Make sure you read the back of your agreement because if you can quit only 3 days before your signing of the contract. Make your decision quick; time is going to run out fast after signing the contract. After the 3-day trial period, if you quit before 6 months, you will be charged approx $75 (it has probably gone up by now).
One of the first thing you'll notice on the first day of working out is that if you want a towel, you'll be charged $1, or at some gyms $1 for the small towel and $2 for a larger towel. This is just a desposit, don't forget to pick up your money at the end of your workout after you've returned your towel.
Their campaign/ motto is "No judgement". The real question would be, "by who?" Its a gym, like any other gym, of course someone is checking out someone else out (sorry thats just human nature).
Im using the Crunch gym in NYC, where there's probably more Crunch gym than any other cities. I've used almost all of them and I've found that they embellish a lot on their advertisements. They claim that there's a pool, basketball and racquetball courts. THE TRUTH: The CRUNCH gym that contains the three athletic activities is on 42nd street where the pool is four lanes (small), one racquetball court, and a ghetto looking basketball backboard and rim put inside a racquetball court.
I must admit that there are a lot of classes at the main Lafayette CRUNCH, the only one that's open almost 24/7. It's closed early on Saturday at 11pm and Sunday at 9:00pm. The spin, cycle class, or whatever you want to call it where you're (station) cycling w/ a lot of other people, 1 instructor and loud music is usually always crowded so it'll be very hard to sign up for it.
There are more than a dozen different type of music, why must they play the same techno/trance music that they've probably brought two years ago on sale, all day. I thought you're suppose to break into the weights not break out the glow sticks. If techno/trance isn't your type of music during workouts, then bring a Walkman, Discman or an mp3 player because thats the only stuff they'll play. My recommendation is to bring your own music and put the headphones on because its almost impossible to please everyone when it comes to music.
My contract ran out earlier this year, and I've tried some of the other gyms including my local gym. I must say that once you been to a good gym and a standard has been set, its really hard to go for anything less.
