| levkoeff's Full Review: Gold's Gym |
Beware of Gold's Gym in Rockville, MD. I joined a gym in April of 2005. I paid $99 for unlimited membership. Everything was Ok until one day in September my locker was burglarized, and my wallet, Ids, credit cards, and cash were stolen. I called to a police and filled a police report. The day when my locker was cracked they had three similar cases in this Gym. Gym's management was very unhappy about the fact I filed a police report. The next day I asked gym's management to give me back my deposit and cancel my membership. G-d I was naive. According to a contract you signed burglary is not a qualifying event for Gym's cancellation. Qualifying events according to a contract is your death, disability, and relocation to a place which does not have Golds Gym in 50 miles vicinity (is it Hell I guess?). Instead of apologies they heaped a cancellation fee on top of my monthly fee because I cancelled a credit card, which they charged monthly, though I asked them in advance to mail me bills in future because I am afraid that my Id is stolen. I complained to their corporate, sent two letters to them one regular and a certified one, called them and talked in person with managers. They do not respond to your letters, avoid direct answers when you talk, and continue to suck money from your card. Even if you suggest paying off the remainder of monthly fees it does not guarantee that you can get rid of these money suckers because Conexion (a company that collects money for them) informs you that you should send a certified letter to Gold's Gym informing them that you would like to cancel membership Guess what - if they do not respond to your certified mail they can gently ignore your request and continue to suck money or to send your case to a collection agency. Also pay attention that they do not check people who come to their premises, do not have safe boxes at their front desk, and according to their contract are not responsible for anything. A locker where I left my valuables is in a locker room where people are present all the time was burglarized with a crowbar or its equivalent. I can imagine that if you come to a locker room at a wrong time your head can also be opened with the same tool. Stay away from this gym as far as possible.
