Worst Customer Service Ever.

Pros: Nice facility.
Cons: Terrible, terrible, terrible, corporate customer service.
The Bottom Line: Do not sign up for a membership with Gold's unless you know you'll never want to cancel.

When I canceled my membership, it was due to me moving more than 20 mi. away from an Gold's Gyms, not because I was unhappy with the facility. The rep at the gym had told me that my cancellation had gone through. Then I started receiving these messages via email (in order of most recent to oldest):

So I called the number, they never answer the phone, you have to wait 48 hours for a call back. Once I get the call back they let me know that they did not accept my "proof of move" b/c it was a monthly lease, they don't accept monthly leases. Of course, the rep at the gym told me they would accept, a lease agreement with new address on it, a current pay stub or a bank statement. Well, I work for myself and my lease is monthly, that leaves me with the option to send my bank statement, like I trust this ignoramuses to handle sensitive material of the sort. But what can you do? They not giving me any other option. So I send one in and I write this email concerning these "tickets" they keep sending me.
"This information is in no way intuitive or useful to me as a person outside of the Gold's Gym infrastructure. I see the word "billed" in there. I was told by a rep at the Deerfield, OH location that my cancellation had been confirmed in August. Therefor, I will not be paying any amount to Gold's Gym. I have never, ever received messages from a responsible corporation as cryptic as the ones that follow. This is the only correspondence that Gold's has sent besides 2 bills. The impression I'm getting is that I'm communicating with a poorly written computer program. How can I receive "cancelled but billed" twice? Gold's is a great facility, but the corporate end is doing an excellent job ensuring that I never sign up for a membership with them again.
Please have a representative call me to explain to me why I'm experiencing some of the worst customer service ever."
After this I got a phone message about a day later that informed me that they apologize and that my "proof of moving" had been accepted and that I DID NOT owe anything as all charges had been dropped. Then today, I get another bill, and this ticket:

Needless to say, I'm absolutely furious. I called the number and of course the only human you can talk to is the operator who informs you that she can't help you unless she forwards you to the appropriate rep who you have to leave a message with and then wait 48 hours to hear back from.
So I sent this to their support email address:
"I AM NOT A MEMBER OF GOLD'S GYM AND DO NOT OWE MONEY. PLEASE GET YOUR RECORDS STRAIGHT. I HAVE A RECORDED TELEPHONE MESSAGE FROM GOLD'S STATING THAT MY PAST BALANCES WERE DROPPED AND MY MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION WAS SUCCESSFULLY PROCESSED. YOU'VE ALREADY LOST A POTENTIAL FUTURE CUSTOMER, UNLESS THIS MATTER IS RESPONSIBLY RESOLVED, MY NEXT INTERACTION WITH GOLD'S WILL INVOLVE MY LAWYER."
You can tell I'm frustrated right? B/c I have no option but to let them screw up their records and keep billing me! That's why I'm writing this review. To vent, and to let everyone else no not to sign a contract with this corporation who has obviously set up a system to deliberately screw over customers!!!
