In its entirety, the Atkins diet is rather absurd and not to mention very risky to one's health. Yes you are likely to lose weight if you follow this diet. My friends father lost about 120 lbs. on this diet for example. However the diet entails that you consume high levels of protein and hardly any carbohydrates. This is not a balanced diet and it can defintely cause heart attacks. Part of the diet involves eating foods like meats and cheeses and these are not always healthy to eat in large amounts. It is important to have balance in your diet by eating a little but from each of the food groups instead of just food with protein in them, as the diet suggests. Also this Atkins character acts like he has made an astonsihing dietetic discovery. Whereas it has been known for years that in order to build muscle and drop some weight you should eat a lot of protein and go easy and the carbohydrates. This diet is absurd and many modifications need to be made in order for it to be sensible.
