My Wife and I went on the Atkins diet a few months back. I was very skeptical about it working but was willing to eat bacon and eggs to find out.
I have always been a very thin person with a high metabolism and never had any problem with weight. In fact I was always proud of myself for putting on a few pounds. Then I got a job in computers and spent hours in front of this screen not moving and now I've got about 25 pounds I wouldn't mind loosing.
So we started the very strict part of the diet and I got sick the second day, I felt horrible, had no energy and wanted to eat pizza worse then anything in my life. I slept for 2 days straight. My wife on the other hand who normally needs about 12 hours of sleep a night to feel good was full of energy and only slept a couple hours a night for the first week. I lost weight so fast it hurt. She lost weight much more slowly but still did loose. I ended up loosing 15 pounds in 2 weeks and my wife lost 10 in 4 weeks.
We both were hearing a lot of bad reports about the diet and thought maybe it wasn't such a good idea and we stopped. Actually we went on a cruise and had to find some way to justify our eating.
We were both surprised to find that the weight did not come back quickly. In fact it didn't come back at all. We stayed thin for about 6 months before we started gaining weight again. We went back on the diet hoping to curb the weight gain but found that it no longer worked. As strict as I could be I could not loose a single pound.
I can't explain that whole thing but I thought I would share it in the hopes that it helps someone out there to make a choice.
