| georud's Full Review: Atkins Diet |
I am a 40 year old male who decided one day that I was too heavy. I had tried many different weight loss strategies, but none worked long-term. I began experimenting with the Atkins program over one year ago. Today, I am well over 25 lbs. lighter than I have been for many years. I decided to try this program because I thought it would be easy to follow, and, if you use your head, it is. I believe in Atkins' basic theory that it's excessive carbs that cause overweight, so it makes sense that cutting most carbs from your diet will cause you to lose weight. I was losing a couple of pounds each week for several months. I have maintained my current weight for most of a year.
One of the plusses of Atkins is that you can eat as much as you want of low-carb foods, so I would not consider Atkins' portions restrictive at all.
I have modified this eating plan to include a piece of fruit each day, and I focus on white meats rather than fatty meats.
There is alot of controversy surrounding the Atkins diet, but my experience has been very positive. I have had two complete physicals since I began modifying my diet, and all indications are that I'm in great health.
I would recommend Atkins to anyone who wants to lose weight, but can't live on salads alone.
