The atkins diet will work if you do it right. Obviously, if you cut out all carbohydrates from your body you will not be supplying your body with enought vitamins. The basic principal behind the atkins diet is cutting out the sugars. Sugar is not good for you in the first place so it should be not allowed in your body. This keeps you from eating those sweets that you might have before. However, you can still eat fruit, just not too much of it a day. Also, you must take vitamin pills on this diet. This is to make up for not eating the carbs. Remember, the only reason you shouldn't eat the carbs in because they turn into sugar in your body. The way to be succesful on the atkins diet is to eat salads, fruit, chicken, eggs, and meat(but not too much). You won't lose the weight as fast as people who just eat meat all the time, but you will do it healthy and you will lose the weight. The other good thing about this diet is you feel good. For me, one egg in the morning, a salad in the afternoon, and a dinner consisting of a meat or chicken satisfies me throughout my day(and I am a 21 year old boy). Before I need tons more food througout the day to keep me going. The reason I needed more before was because I was surviving on pastas, which gave me quick energy, but didn't last. Anyways, if you are smart about this diet it can work, but if you go overboard on the meats and don't eat the vegetables it will harm you more than it will help you.
