Pros: The soup tastes good the first day, it's actually not a bad vegetable soup recipe.
Cons: Fructose overdose (hey I'm a poet and didn't know it!! )

| shelxland's Full Review: Cabbage Soup Diet |
I have tried every diet known to man (WOman probably fits better). I am going to write two epinions tonight on the best that I have tried, which is the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet and this one, the Cabbage Soup Diet which is the worst.
Like the rest of the population, I tried the Cabbage Soup Diet when it first circulated (or maybe it had circulated before too). It was the rage and all the girls at work *and* my roommate were trying it so I jumped on the bandwagon and went shopping for ingredients.
The basic principle behind the Cabbage Soup Diet is that you make up huge batches of this tomato based vegetable soup, which is actually very tasty, and it becomes the staple of your eating for the rest of your life (okay, okay actually just for the length of the diet, but it seems like forever). You can eat as much of this soup as you'd like.
The rest of the days are set up as follows...
Day one... Any fruit except bananas.
Day two... Any vegetables and a baked potato with butter.
Day three... Day one and day two put together (excluding the potato)
Day four... Skim milk and bananas.
Day five... 10 oz. of beef and a tomato.
Day six... Unlimited beef and veggies.
Day seven... Brown rice and veggies, unsweetened fruit juice.
Then start over.
Now, I bought a ton of groceries and just knew that with my roommate's help we'd get through at least a week, if not two, of this diet. I weighed myself before the start and vowed to not step on the scale until the morning of day 8.
Day one for me was okay. Like I said before, I really like the taste of the soup and with a bit of fruit added in, I was fine all day.
By day two, I was getting a little sick of the soup but I really like veggies so I filled in my eating with a ton of cauliflower, celery and carrots. Plus I had my potato.
Day three I was even more tired of the soup, full of veggies and the fruit was starting to all taste the same. I didn't get my potato today so I ended the day feeling a bit hungry.
Day four brought on the bananas and milk. By now I am sick of the soup, and when I ate the bananas all I could taste was the fructose (from eating so much fruit the day before) so I had to stop eating them. While I love milk, I didn't know if I could live the whole rest of the day on it. But I did it, and remained hungry. I just kept reminding myself that I got actual beef for dinner the next day if I could hold on.
Day five rolls around... I opt to completely skip breakfast and lunch because even the smell of the soup is revolting. It's like eating leftovers day after day after day after day.... sorry, anyway... I was really looking forward to my beef and tomato that night and tried to focus on that. Until all the other girls from work came in my office at 11:30 a.m. and called a "diet" meeting. They were as hungry and sick of the diet as I was, and in one fell swoop we jumped in the suburban and headed to La Costa... the local Mexican restaurant.
We pigged out on chips and salsa and enchiladas (we even toasted our being off-diet with virgin margaritas) and it was **wonderful**!!!!!
