Pros: Lots of choices between Highly Beneficial and Neutral.
Got me off of my plateau.
Cons: Some of my fave foods are in the AVOID area.
The Bottom Line: I don't have to compromise nutrition for weight loss as with many plans and I can still go out to eat with friends.

| caithnessfan's Full Review: Eat Right 4 Your Type Diet |
Earlier I wrote a review and posted it incorrectly in this category. I wrote more of a review of the book than the actual diet so this will hopefully fix that problem and be more towards the actual diet and it's results etc from my humble view.
I have been fighting the battle of the bulge for ages off and on.
I have gone through the several systems and diets in that time from actual "eat so and so way ONLY" programs, to starvation and high levels of working out to eat ONLY these foods at these times.
I spoke with a friend who told me about this book a while back when I had hit a plateau and was stuck at 7 pounds down.
I found a copy for just my type (B) and decided to give it a try.
The book breaks foods into 3 areas for various categories.
The charts are easy to read and portion sizes and frequencies are listed at the top of each chart.
I read the book through and took it with me on a grocery shopping spree at the local super market.
About $100 in fresh produce, meats, cheeses and such, I returned home with about 2 weeks worth of food.
First hint not in the book but common sense oft forgotten. Do NOT go grocery shopping if you are hungry. Even if you buy only good things, you'll buy more than you actually need ;)
I started the diet on a Friday morning and by Monday the plateau was busted and I was dropping weight again.
I have been following the diet fairly closely (with a few minor falls off of the wagon and into the avoid sections) and eating MOSTLY from the Highly beneficial and neutral sections and am still losing weight at a safe slow and steady pace. (About a further 8 pounds in the last 3 and a half weeks)
I am keeping up with my additional work outs that I started before the dreaded plateau as well, nothing HIGHLY stressful but an hour of water aerobics 4 times a week in addition to yard work on at least 1 day a week.
My energy level has gone up, my regular bouts of heartburn have gone to rare occasions,
from 3-4 times a week to once a week if that.
The Type B program is fairly balanced among the Highly beneficial and neutral areas.
The Meats are limited choices on the Highly beneficial but there are several things in the neutral areas that make up for it and the breads list MOST wheat items are on the Avoid list. On the bright side the fruits and veggies sections are VERY open with few avoids.
The book mentions that you do not HAVE to ELIMINATE the items on the avoid list but you DO need to minimize the times and portions listed in that category. IF you back slide and eat an avoid item (for me, it is sausage or bacon at breakfast on weekends) just bump up the Highly beneficial area foods and limit the servings (1 sausage patty instead of the 2 I usually have)
It has not caused "Miracle weight loss and cures to all of my maladies" but it has helped in general and this is what the book says. Weight loss is NOT guaranteed but it is a side benefit in many people if they have to make many changes to their diet.
I think that I can stay on this diet plan for a long period with the options available and the balance possibilities within the "food pyramid". After the short time that I have been on this diet, I am happy with it so far, the hard part for me is going to be avoiding Pork and chicken.
For other blood types, the limitations and food choices vary but I can't really speak for the efficacy of them as I am a B type and not an A, O or AB.
If you have tried various diets in the past the break outs will have some information that you have figured out by now but others that will probably surprise you. For me it was the fact that Chicken is on my avoid list as well as ALL shell fish.
