| lmjenkins's Full Review: Eat Right 4 Your Type Diet |
Dr. Peter D'Adamo, the doctor who pioneered this "diet," was my mother physician and I also visited him a few times before his books were released. Not everyone interested in trying this diet will be fortunate enough to sit down with Dr. D'Adamo, but he is a smart man and his theories make sense.
I can speak best about my own plan, as a blood type O (positive or negative, doesn't matter):
Blood Type O is the oldest blood type, originating in Eastern Europe (think Cavemen), and these early folks had to survive on mostly lean red meats and some vegetables. Often they went without foo, therefore their metabolism could slow drastically to conserve nutrients. It wasn't until man spread into Asia that other blood types (A) began eating rice, wheat and starchy foods.
The rationale is that O's still, to this day, have the chemical makeup of ancient O's and will do best on lean red meats, etc. For me, the hardest part but the most effective part is giving up wheat. I love wheat -- pasta, bread, croutons, etc. But when I cut that out, it helps me with excess weight, and after the initial cravings go away and I get used to it, I feel wonderful - more energized, etc.
Ever blood type has a long, long list of foods that are "beneficial," "neutral," or that they should "avoid." You don't have to give up all of anything.
I believe this is a lifestyle choice. Sure, you may lose some weight, and for me, losing wheat really did that. But mostly it is a means to be more in tune with your body and more heathful over all.
