Pros: Worked minimally. Interesting concept. I don't know if it actually worked for food allergies.
Cons: A-diet is too soy-rich. Too restrictive. Cuts out whole food groups.
The Bottom Line: The bottom line is, yes you will lose weight because of all the restrictions of so many foods.

| bablondie25's Full Review: Eat Right 4 Your Type Diet |
I was excited that a doctor was paying attention to my cries for help with thyroid weight I had gained. My naturopathic doctor that I decided to see recommended this book and diet instead of doing a food allergies test. She took my blood type and I was shocked to find out it was an A when I had always thought I was an O. I bought a store test just to test it again for accuracy.
Now this doctor was helping me with my thyroid problems and weight related to my thyroid problems, yet I was a blood type A which meant I had to eat mostly like a vegetarian. If anyone knows anything about thyroid conditions one of the things most needed in a thyroid-related diet is protein. Soy is one thing that thyroid patients are supposed to avoid (it suppresses thyroid hormone). I thought okay, soy won't do anything to me, so I'll follow the diet. Well I followed it to the "T" for two months. I did lose 6 lbs, going from 240lbs down to 234.
I only felt like I lost the weight because the diet was so restrictive. I could eat tuna with spinach and no condiments and dressings, my only dressing was lemon juice with olive oil. And lots of tofu, and alternative bread products (like brown rice flour). Carob was allowed (as my one and only sweet) and I ate a lot of pumpkin seeds (which was recommended). I suppose if I hadn't eaten carob, I may have lost even more weight (b/c it has sugar in it). I also ate a lot of almond butter (very high in fat) b/c it seemed that almond butter and tofu were all the proteins I was allowed. The diet for type A is really very restrictive. I would have to pull out the book constantly to look up items I could and could not have to eat.
Overall, I felt healthier, I had been eating like a rabbit for two months. For the overall weight loss, and walking during this time, I was really disappointed in the amount of weight loss. I would've liked to see about 12 lbs at least in a two-month period for someone my size and with such a restrictive diet.
I felt the book was expensive, and buying a blood type kit can be also. If you accidentally do the blood type kit wrong, you will have to buy another one to do it again (unless you know your blood type already, or have your doctor do it).
Medically speaking, I really messed up my body. I made my thyroid problem worse eventually. I had made my thyroid go from a really good, functioning one, to a horribly sluggish one (shown and proved by thyroid tests I took) because of all the tofu (soy) I ate while on the type A Diet. I do love eating tofu and soy milk, and am sad that I have a thyroid condition and have to give it up. I assume that people without thyroid problems can eat soy with no problems whatsoever. But someone like me, I need to run, run, run far away from a diet like this!
