Cons: The diet for me was unrealistic.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the book for the educational content and interest level of it. I did find the diet however, to be to restricting and unrealistic for me.

| msmorvay's Full Review: Eat Right 4 Your Type Diet |
I will outline the basics. What the book suggests is that all blood types are different and in order to achieve optimum health and maintain the proper weight you should eat a certain way in order to accommodate your bodies needs for your blood type.
Research and Author
Dr. DAdamo is a naturopathic and spent many years working in several different health spas it was then he realized that not all people responded the same to certain diets and treatments. He has taken over the 30 year research of his father and has been researching the connections between blood types, food and disease for 15 yeas (as of the time the book was printed).
Book Details
In the book you will find eating plan for each type of blood type:Type O. Type B, Type A, and Type AB.
Along with meal plans you will be given: Supplement advice, and a stress exercise profile. Each blood type is also given a personality question.
There is some very interesting information about each blood type and what they thrive on. For instance some body types thrive better on higher protein diets while other work better with higher carbohydrate diets. It also explains why certain foods will cause persons with certain blood types to retain or gain excess weigh instead of maintaining an ideal weight.
Foods
Each body type will find two food lists for their blood type these lists include:
Foods That Encourage Weight Gain
Foods That Encourage Weight Loss
Each Food group is then broken down and a list of foods for each group are provided and categorized as: Highly Beneficial, Nuetral, and Avoid. After the extensive food lists you will then find a few sample menu plans, and corresponding recipes.
Supplements
After the food list section you enter into the supplement area, in that section you will find several recommended supplements for your blood type and an explanation of how each will benefit you. There are also foods listed for each supplement that are high in that particular vitamin or mineral.
Exercise:
Immediately following the supplement information you will find exercise information. There is a listing of suitable exercises or activities that should be done in order to reach optimum health and weight for each body part. It is highly suggested that you not only do these certain activities but that you should do them for a certain amount of time and for a certain amount of days per week.
There is a short explanation of why those particular kinds of exercises will work for a person of your particular blood type. It also explains basic exercise procedures (warm up, exercise, cool down)
What Next?
After the blood type specific chapters you can then go on to read about how certain blood types are more prone to certain diseases. And how blood types react to certain things such as vaccines, antibiotics and surgery recovery.
There is also a section that outlines the most frequent diseases and how blood types relate to them. Three is also an entire chapter dedicated to blood types and Cancer.
You will also find a section that answers some current medical break through questions and then the book goes on to explain how certain nationalities have higher incidences of certain blood types.
My Personal Feelings
I will be honest after I read about my particular blood type I became completely depressed because according to this book I need to live on spinach, prunes, steak, and seltzer water or else be fat and unhealthy for the rest of my life. I am of course kidding but, it is just about that bleak. According to this book just about everything edible will cause reactions in my body that will cause me to be overweight. Again I am exaggerating but it appears that many things will cause a bad reaction with my blood type.
After reading the book I decided to make a few dietary changes and purchase some of the products that Dr. Peter J.D' Adamo recommends, things like replacing ordinary bread with something called Ezekiel bread, of course I could not find this type of bread anywhere. My menu plans also consisted of quite a bit of food using tofu as a main ingredient, I am not that particularly fond of tofu, I will eat it occasionally but I dont think that I could stand having it be a major stapler in my diet. Basically after reading all of the things that I cannot eat I find it quite depressing, I also find the diet a bit unrealistic and would imagine that it would be difficult for anyone to sustain this type of eating for to long without wanting to throw themselves at the mercy of their local bakery. I did try the diet for a few days but felt that it made me a little to cranky and I was left very unsatisfied. I was also quite frustrated because I could not find some of the suggested products.
I found the chapter about diseases and blood type relations to be very interesting and I would suggest reading the book just for this information alone. I learned a great deal from reading this section. I would highly suggest reading this book to anyone who has particular concerns about and of the specific diseases listed. You many find the information provided in that chapter invaluable.
As far as the diet part goes, I have decided to pretend I never read this book and just go back to the way I have been eating. Although the book is well written and informative I just don't think that eating the way that Dr. Peter J.D'Adamo suggests is realistic for me. This book may work wonderfully for people with other blood types, or have more discipline than I do. I am just saying that for me the diet does not work well with my personality type and I dont feel that I would be able to maintain this diet for more than a couple of days. It is simply way to constricting. I do however feel that it is definitely worth the read.
Final Words
I give this book a thumbs up on information content. I give a thumbs down though when it comes to the diet, I dont think that it is realistic for the average person. I am not saying that it does not work I have not given it a fair of enough chance in order to answer that question but I am saying that I did try it and did not feel that I could keep it up, and not because I am simply un-disciplined but because I am a normal human being who likes to eat normally, I dont think that taking someone who is not accustomed to eating tofu and telling them that they need to eat tofu several times a week is realistic. I know I am picking on tofu and it is a wonderful and healthful food, but this diet just interferes to much with my taste buds needs for satisfaction. That of course is all simply my own opinion.
