| KathyRusko's Full Review: Fit For Life Diet |
Ok, well, now that I have had my memory jogged, I think that starting tomorrow I will go back on this for awhile. I haven't used this plan for awhile. I discovered it a few years ago, and I found it to be a very exciting plan. I lost 9 pounds in one week, and I truly never had so much energy. I went off of it because of Christmas and never managed to really get back onto it the way I should have.
The basic principle of this plan is that your body needs to be able to digest and eliminate food in the proper manor if you are to stay healthy and weigh the correct weight for your body type. For this to happen, you must combine foods in the proper way. I read "Fit for Life" by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, and started to follow their ideas. It really works, and I have only good things to say about this plan.
The main rules involve eating nothing but fruit before noon, and after 6pm. Or, maybe it was 8pm. I haven't read this book for awhile. Also, you must never eat protiens and carbohydrates together. If you combine these your body will not digest them properly and they will just sit around as a rotting mess in your stomach for much longer than food should remain in that area. There is really no restriction on the amount of food you can eat, other than common sense. You seem to be able to eat more volume of food on this plan and still drop weight quickly. That is because of the way your body will metabolize foods on this plan.
I have always had a problem eating fruit on an empty stomach, so I didn't expect this to be a good idea for me. When I started this plan, I was somewhat uncomfortable with that part of it for about 2 days. Then my body adjusted to it, and I had no further trouble. Now that I only eat fruit in the morning once in awhile, I find that is seems to bother me again. I suppose that it will be OK again after a couple of days back on the plan.
I had no problem with the aspect of not combining protiens and carbs, other than the fact that I like them together. I love a baked potatoe with a steak. Noodles with chicken. You get the idea. All in all though, I am not that much of a meat eater anymore. I got used to it before, and I think it will not bother me this time at all.
Part of the beauty of this plan is that they tell you that you don't have to follow it all, but the more you stick to the plan, the better off you will be, and the more weight you will lose. I broke several rules, and still lost the weight. First rule I broke is to stay away from caffene. My co-workers have decided that I must be ammune to the stuff. While I do seem to need it to wake up in the morning, I consume amounts of caffene that they would be crazy consuming. I tend to swallow a couple of Vivarin with a couple of cups of coffee for an afternoon pick me up. It makes me a little more alert, but no jitters or anything. I didn't stay away from my "killer coffee" at all. Another thing I disregarded was the advice to stick to salad dressings that you made yourself, or bought from the health food store to avoid preservatives. I ate the regular stuff I always ate. The plan still worked for me.
Harvey and Marilyn advised that if you stick to nothing else, you should stick to the "nothing but fruit before noon, and after dinner" rule. I stuk faithfully to that, and also to the "no protiens and carbs together" rule. It wasn't hard. I had plenty of food, and never, ever felt hungry or deprived. The foods I ate, whether following one of their recipes or just making up my own with proper combining, were very tasty. I was satisfied, energetic, and felt very good.
One of the things that I like about this plan, also, is that you are eating in a really balanced way. You eat all food groups, just combine them properly. Of course, you are to eat more of the healthy things, and less of the things that aren't really good for you, but nothing is strictly taboo. It is also easy to get a meal in a restruant that follows these principles. Sometimes, depending on the restruant, you may have to combine a few side dishes to eat properly instead of ordering a regular meal, but it is possible and not a problem for the waitress.
You might as well give this one a try. As Harvey and Marilyn say, the closer to their rules you stay, the healthier you will be. Still, you chose how far you want to go. Each step you adopt will have a good effect on your health and your weight.
