Pros: Great diet as long as you stay with it and don't stray from it.
Cons: Great weight gain IF you go off it without a transition period.
I have found this to be exactly like the Lindora program. I can remember being on the Lindora, years ago, and the idea was EXACTLY the same. Matter of fact, I thought perhaps Medifast had some sort of tie-in with Lindora ...
What's amazing, is, you don't find that out until the products arrive, and you start reading the book. Now, IF you're familiar with Ketosis, you'll understand exactly what the program is like, once you get to that part in the book where it talks about how the program REALLY works.
Folks ... don't let anybody kid you! Ketosis is the absence of carbohydrates in the system ... OR, let's better describe it as a high protein diet. That's exactly what Lindora is. That's exactly what Medifast is.
Yeah ... it's low in calories, but, at the same time, the LEAN meal is what's doing it to ya!!
Now ... here's what happens ... When you're in Ketosis, your body is feeding off of itself ... plain and simple! This also means that being in Ketosis makes your body VERY sensitive to carbohydrates .... Why? Because it causes your fat cells to become VERY sensisitive, as they enlarge and become bigger .... This is ALSO why MOST if NOT all people who just go off the diet, end up gaining ALL their weight, and in some cases, doubling that weight gain.
So ... IF you are going to go on a high protein diet, such as Medifast, Lindora, Atkins, etc., you have to keep this in mind ... Ketosis is a good thing IF you are aware of what it does and can manage it. Thus, if you "think" you're going to go off it, then you REALLY need to transition slowly and the heavier you are, the GREATER the transition should be ...
I've read some of the reviews about some of the foods and thought I was crazy ... but, they are right ... the food, MOST of it is not all that great ...
One last thing ... Regarding Migrains ... Often, eating is due to an addiction ... an addiction to food ... especially if you are WAY overweight. Now, if you eat a lot of carbs, this means your body has a lot of sugar stored in your body ... I think the AVERAGE is enough sugar for 1,000 pancakes .... That's a lot. ALSO, if you drink a lot of caffein, that's another kind of drug ... So, you really have to consider this ... MSG???? Okay....??!!, Big deal ... BUT, here you are starting this diet, and you technically are putting your body in shock by depriving it of the things, i.e., caffein and carbs, that it's used to having... This is another reason why you want to start this diet where you have at least 4 days ahead of you that you can, well, basically stay home, and veg, while your body goes into temporary shock ... BUT, the thing you have to remember is that it's ONLY temporary ... You can do it!!
Just to touch on migrains ... IF one is so used to drinking caffeinated sodas and drinks a lot of them, i.e., say a 6 pack plus a day, and then all the sudden you cold turkey start drinking water ... Most likely, you're going to get a migrain, OR a very bad headache ... It's to be expected.
