| lisas77's Full Review: MediFast Plus Weight Loss Program |
After many failed attempts at dieting and combos of diet and exercise I decided to go with guerilla tactics and put myself on a meal replacement diet plan. This definitely takes all the guesswork and most of the pre-planning out of losing weight which was certainly a plus for my lifestyle which is fraught with unplanned events and frequent schedule changes.
I used only the appetite suppressant shakes and the bars the entire 8 months. At first I tried some of the other products but found myself less satiated afterwards with anything but the bars and shakes. I doubled the amount of water in the shakes so I ended up having between 12 and 16 oz of liquid which felt more satisfying as well.
While on the plan I was absolutely militant with myself about eating ANYTHING but the meal plan. This was very difficult for the first 4 weeks at least while I worked through my dependency on carbohydrates and my severe insulin resistance. After the first month, though, I felt just fine, had no cravings and felt no urge whatsoever to cheat. I never felt deprived at all and often sat with friends while they had desserts, high calorie gourmet food and wine and didn't even wish for a bite. This is how committed I was to losing weight. I must say it paid off, though not as fast as I had hoped. Somehow the promises and the examples of others who were on the plan set my expectations a bit high and it took me a couple of months to adjust my expectations. Nevertheless, I did click off 10 lbs a month very consistently. Around month 5, however, the weight loss became about 5 lbs each month and later practically nothing. After 8 months I switched into maintenance mode and was able to maintain for another 3 months. Once going off maintenance, however, I'm back up 10 lbs, a full year after starting on the plan. No complaints, though. I went from a plus size 16 to a size 6 in 8 months. It was worth every penny.
For me, however, as I contemplate what to do about the 10 lbs of rebound gain I've decided not to do Medifast again. I did not exercise the entire time I was on the plan and am now working with a trainer and starting a bicycle commute to work. Becoming more active and eating regular food is now my long term goal and I will now do this without meal replacements (or will try to). My belief is that this plan, while convenient and effective, was not the key to my weight loss -- my commitment to it was the key. I could do the same with other similar and less expensive products with the same measure of will-power. There's no question that Medifast got me to a total babe status, but it is equally clear that it's up to me to keep myself that way.
