I began Medifast two weeks ago after much research which included epinions! Also, two people I new have successfully used it (I didn't know that was how they lost the weight until I asked if they had ever heard of Medifast). The Medifast MODIFIED PLAN means you have 4 to 5 supplements a day plus a daily meal of 5 oz of lean meat and vegies/salad. These supplements have healthy soy protein and all the necessary vitamins/minerals and consist of many choices such as shakes, soups, oatmeal and chili. The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine did an efficacy study of the medically-supervised, protein-supplemented modified fasting program Medifast. Twenty patient charts were selected randomly from 20 randomly selected Medifast clinics nationwide. The patients were ones that had completed the program in the past two years. 46% (185 patients) had completed 16 weeks on the program. The abstract for this study is rather lengthy but the bottom line conclusion was that medically-supervised, protein-supplemented modified fasting programs offer a safe, effective weight reduction and even have benefits of improving other health problems (high blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides). Three programs are available to aid in your weight loss. The COMPLETE PROGRAM consists of 5 to 6 Medifast supplements a day and no food. Medifast replaces all meals. The MODIFIED PLAN which is explained above. The OPTIMAL HEALTH/MAINTENANCE PLAN combines 2 to 5 Medifast supplements and healthy food. This plan is for those that need to lose less than 15 pounds. After your desired weight is off there is a 6 week plan to aid you in SLOWLY going of the fast and incorporating healthy food back into your diet. This is crucial as your body has been accustomed to a very low caloric intake (500 to 1200 calories depending on which plan you followed). This balance of the Medifast program aid your body in achieving a mild level of ketosis (fat stores release free fatty acids which convert by the liver into energy called ketones). OUR SUCCESSES
I have carried 40 extra pounds for 13 years after the birth of our child. I have been a "professional dieter" trying almost every diet plan, gimmick and dinner except prescription meds.
