| jensmom604's Full Review: NutriSystem Weight Loss Program |
Having tried Weight Watchers, South Beach, and the Woman's Day (magazine) diet and lost weight only to gain it back, I felt that Nutrisystems was my last chance. I especially like the free week of food offered when I signed up to purchase the 4 weeks of food. It was expensive, but like many people I didn't realize I'd also have to purchase fresh items -- fruits, vegetables, dairy products. But I decided to give it a try. That was 2 months ago, and I just called and cancelled my membership. I initially lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks, but I felt terrible. Unless I ate breakfast very late in the morning, about 10:00 a.m. I'd crash. I'd feel weak, so hungry, yet the plan did not call for a morning snack. Often I'd give in and run through the drive-in for a sausage biscuit. I am usually out during the morning, running errands before the heat of the day sets in (it's summer in the southeast as I write this). I didn't lose any more after that 7 pounds because I was so hungry on this diet, I kept eating more than I was supposed to. I found most of the breakfasts and lunches okay, just not enough food. The dinners literally made me sick. They were mostly gloppy sauce with miniscule bits of chicken or beef thrown in. The portions were smaller than Smart Source or Lean Cusine. Of course I was supposed to have vegetables and a salad to supplement the dinners. I had to shop every other day to keep a fresh supply of salad vegetables and fruits. When I called their hotline for suggestions and help, I had a long wait time before getting through to a live person. She kept interrupting me before I could complete a sentence and ending everything with "you see what I mean?". She did suggest I move my foods around during the day, for instance I could move part of my afternoon snack to the morning so I wouldn't feel weak. But then she said "You're not supposed to be hungry on this program." She sounded like she was reading a script. I realized that the "counselors" are merely individuals who work in a call center. They are not trained professional weight loss counselors. They probably have a script in front of them with answers to the common questions people ask. Yesterday was the last straw, when I ate breakfast early and got hungry and weak at 10:00 a.m. I had multiple errands to run, and was not physically able to do so. They didn't give me any flak when I called to cancel; just a cancellation confirmation number. They asked why I was cancelling, and rather than tell them I was starving all the time, I just said I couldn't afford it anymore, which is true. I've decided to give Weight Watchers another try. I lost 30 pounds on it a few years ago and gained it back because I went off the program and stopped exercising.
