Pros: Fast weight loss. Can pig out on all the foods the ADA say's are taboo.
Cons: Not for everyone. Some people have bad reactions, some don't. Bad breath. Sweat a lot. Weakness at first 'till you're body adjusts.

| zibbler's Full Review: Protein Power Plan |
I decided to try this diet because I had about 20 stubborn pounds to lose after having my last child. I did the low fat thing to the "T" cutting my fats to 10%. Well, I gained weight on the low fat plan. Then along come the PP plan.
I won't get into the details of the plan as others have covered it already, but I will tell you my experience with it. The first 2 weeks or so were the toughest. I felt very weak and sweated a lot. After my body adjusted, the weakness went away but the sweating didn't. I also had a funky taste in my mouth all the time from the ketones. I did lose quite a bit of weight on it and looked and felt great, but another problem soon arose. I couldn't stomach eating anymore eggs & bacon or salad or all the rich cheesy creamy foods. I had a hard time digesting all the fat. So, I adjusted my carbs up to about 75 grams a day, felt much better and maintained my weight. Then, somewhere along the line I got real sloppy and just started eating anyting I felt Like. Guess what? The weight started comming back on. I didn't gain a lot, but enough that I couldn't fit into all those nice new, slim clothes I bought.
At this point I decided it was time to go back on the plan to lose those few ponds that crept up on me. Well, same problem. I couldn' stomach all the rich fatty foods on the plan. This is when a light bulb went off in my head. MODERATION is the key. Anything in extreme is not good. So I looked into the Zone plan. Sounded good at first but way too complicated for most people with all the calculations you have to do to figure out how much of what you should eat.
Then I found the Schwarzbein Principle which was perfect! Of course that is another review entirely. All I can say is it is a well balanced plan that won't give you all the ups and downs of the PP plan. I have only been on it for about 2 weeks, so I can't give it a fair review yet, but I will say that although the scale did not budge, my clothes are getting looser. This means I'm not loosing muscle.
Anyway, the moral of the story is: anything in excess is not good. Moderation is the key. The PP plan works, but it's not for everyone. You have to find what works for you. We are all individuals, and each of us has different needs. I let my body give me feedback. I keep my carbs to no more than 30 grams per meal, and my stomach tells me when I've had enough protein or fat. Works for me. BTW, exercize is a must. I don't care what plan you're on, if you don't exercize you'll lose muscle. Less muscle, less fat loss.
