| CeeJay62's Full Review: Sugar Busters! |
I segued into this diet after I gave up (ran away??)from Atkins. I learned from Atkins that I do better eating fewer carbohydrates. I found Atkins too restrictive, so I went searching for a better alternative based on similar principles.
I found it with Sugar Busters. This diet is based on the glycemic index, which is an indicator of the sugar in food. Your body converts starch to sugar, so you need to watch that as well. The glycemic index will guide you in food choices. You simply choose foods that are more fiber filled and complex.
Sugar Buster's doesn't prescribe exact portions sizes. They take the route of telling readers they know full well what a reasonable portion is and to abide by it. They suggest filling a plate reasonably full, with nothing hanging over the edges, and stop when their initial portions are gone. The book has very good charts and menu guides to assist you. Be aware that the book was written in New Orleans, so the suggest menus have a definite Cajun/Creole flare.
The problem I have with this diet is the weight loss is slow. One pound in a good week. I feel wonderful on this diet, with energy to spare. I feel so good, that I instinctively know this is how my body wants to be fed. The problem, like I said, weight loss is slow. I want miracles, I want overnight weight loss......I don't WANT to be patient. So I am left with two choices 1) to keep looking for my miracle or 2) grow up.
