Helpfulness of Suport
Pros: You can eat a lot of fruit if you like Grapefruit.
Cons:Have to eat Grapefruit even if you don't like it.
The Bottom Line: If you want to lose weight eat a balanced diet and include grapefruit in it, not as the basis for the diet.
The Grapefruit diet has been around since I was 15 that was the first time I heard about it. Believe me when I say I have tried that and all the others. Of course I would really like to mix my diets and take things from my favorites such as Grapefruit from that diet. All the fatting stuff from the Atkins diet. Well you see what I mean a mix and match diet would be right up my alley, or should I say tummy.

Okay I hear you, I am supposed to be talking about the Grapefruit diet so I will be on topic. Here goes.
The diet tells you to decide the weight you want to be and mutliply by 13 which gives you what you would need to maintain that ideal weight. Now you just subtract 500 calories from that and that tells you how many calories to use every day.
Lets check this out. If I want to weigh 150 lbs. I mulitply by 13 which would give me 1950 calories a day to maintain the desired weight of 150lbs. Now I subtract 500 calories and my desired caloric intake is 1450 calories I need to eat per day to lose weight slowly. It also tells me which food pyramid I need to use. This would be the correct pyramid for me. I would be closest to the 1500 hundred calorie food pyramid.
Which would be
Milk 2 servings
Meat 2 servings
Fruit 4 servings
Vegetables 4 servings
Bread/cereal/grain 7 servings
Now do you honestly think that it is going to make a difference weather those fruits are grapefruit or not.
This is the problem with the type of thinking above.
If I weigh 270 lbs multiplied by 13, it takes currently 3510 calories to maintain my 270 lbs. If I substract 500 calories from that I could eat 3010 calories and still lose weight slowly. If I cut down to ideal weight calories I am going from 3510 to 1450, I am cutting by calories almost in half. I am going to lose weight at first if I eat one grapefruit on none.
I am not knocking the grapefruit, it is low in calories and has no fats, it has lots of vitamins and is good for you, but nowhere have I ever found evidence that eating grapefruit burns fat
The people that go on the grapefruit diet are going to lose weight because the diet is basically structured like a lot of others on the food pyramid.
Now here is my ideal diet.
In the morning I get to eat eggs and bacon, toast and jelly and of course some hash browns. Oh No, wait, I can't do that I will be getting nitrates from the bacon and cholesterol from the eggs, Drat. Well let me see about lunch. Stuffed Mushrooms sound good, Mushrooms are vegetables! Now to go with that I would like a medium rare hamburger, no that either, cholesterol again and of course there is samonella.
I guess I have to realize what I tell my husband, Honey, you don't need Italian sausage along with meat balls in your spaghetti, and three kinds of cheese on top. Not if you want to lose weight. You don't need Tarmisue for dessert even though I can taste it right now. What he does when I fuss at him about the vegetables he doesn't eat a lot of, is put them on his plate just a little and eat that but when it comes to helpings he never has seconds only of the fat meat and cholesterol ridden other foods.
Well I can't fuss about eating, I know where the food pyramid is and I can always try the grapefruit diet again.
