Helpfulness of Suport
Pros:it works - you can loose weight
Cons:grapefruit juice tastes bad and leaves an aftertaste!
The Bottom Line: The diet worked for me, but you should consult a doctor before trying this or any other diet. I will probably use this diet again.
Let me preface this opinion by saying that I can only speak from my experience with this diet. I am not a doctor or a dietian. If you have any doubts, questions, or concerns about this diet -- talk to your doctor.
The grapefruit diet is very simple. This is how the menu that I was given for it looked.
Breakfast:
8 ounces grapefruit juice
1 egg - cooked anyway
2 slices unbuttered toast
Lunch:
8 ounces grapefruit juice
green salad w/ lemon juice for dressing
Dinner:
8 ounces grapefruit juice
small portion of meat (broiled or baked)
green vegetable - all you want
green salad w/ lemon juice for dressing
******(a half grapefruit can be substituted for the juice)
I was on this diet for about 2-3 weeks at a time and lost about 8-10 pounds a week when doing it. If I was careful, I was able to keep most of it off even after going off the diet.
This diet felt to me like a system cleansing diet. The large amount of juice and lettuce that I consumed tended to flush out my system. (This is not a diet to try while on a trip - a bathroom needs to be close by!) I believe that most of the weight I lost was because of the "system flush".
I did notice that I had a little less energy than usual. This was the main reason that I took a break from it after 2 weeks. The portions are not large, but the juice seems to help you fill up.
The big problem I had with this diet was my dislike of grapefruit juice. I had to get it real cold and swallow it very fast to get it down.
The diet worked for me every time I used it. I can't promise that you will get the same results.
