| teechur's Full Review: Weight Watchers 1-2-3 Success At Home |
I started this program on Feb 2, 2002. As of May 21, 2005 I have lost over 100 pounds and maintained that loss for two years. The program works for losing and works for maintaining.
The program works like this:
-You are given a point target that you try to hit every day. For example, I currently have a target value of 30 points per day. The points are based on calories, fat grams, and fiber grams. Each point equals approximately 50 calories, depending on fiber and fat in the item. (More fat grams may push it up, more fiber and less fat may push it down...so something with 70 calories, no fat, and 4 grams of fiber might be only a point while something with 70 calories and 3 grams of fat and 0 fiber might be 2 points).
-You are alloted 35 Flex Points per week. You may use these points when you need to go over your target points. Once they are gone, they are gone.
-You are expected to work out at least three days a week. For working out you can earn activity points that will boost your point range. You can only eat your activity points the day you earn them. You used to be able to bank them, but not on the new program.
-The Flex Points can be used for special occassions, such as a nice dinner out.
There are lots of resources on the online program:
-Online journal...type the food in, it gives you the point value. You can also enter activities, a journal (written) of your feelings, and look at any past journal.
-Recipes galore...and good ones too! Not filet of catfish brains on a bed of plaid arugula. There are fancy recipes, but there are also makeovers of your favorite meals.
-Recipe builder so you can input (and save) your own recipe and figure out the points per serving.
-Articles all over the place.
-Points lists for regular food and for some restaurants.
-Message boards with LOTS of support.
-Chat room open all night (and day) for even more support
-Success articles
-Weight tracker
and lots more.
I have found the program very easy to follow. It works well with my personal way of eating and can be modified to YOUR personal eating habits. I have also found it very usable for maintaining my weight loss and tracking my exercise.
Like any program, though, it only works if you work it. I journal every single day and keep track of my activities. I weigh in at home every week, even as a lifetimer, and log that. If I gain a few pounds I drop a few points (since I'm on maintenance).
Since losing over 100 pounds I have:
-Completed 2 triathlons
-Completed numerous 5ks, 10ks, etc.
-Completed 3 half marathons
-Completed my first marathon!!!!!
-Jumped out of an airplane
If you're ready to lose 20 pounds or over 200 pounds, this is the program that works because it is sensible, doesn't restrict you to specific "types" of foods, and is doable for the rest of your life.
