Over the last four years, my weight just sort of crept up and up and up gradually, until, one day, I found myself heading to the mall to buy a size 20 pair of pants because I could no longer stuff myself into my size 18 pants. One look at the size label decided me. I left the mall and headed home to look up weight loss programs instead. I vowed NEVER to wear a size 20 again. I reviewed information about several programs before deciding on joining Weight Watchers in November of 1999.
What led me to join Weight Watchers instead of any of the numerous other programs out there? Well, common sense, I guess. Somewhere in my brain I understood that only I had the power to make me lose weight. From this I extrapolated that there was no sense in throwing away my money on some program that pre-packaged food for me and took away all my freedom of choice.
As with anything in life, you get out of Weight Watchers what you put into it. If you don't watch your portions and you continue to make unhealthy choices, then your weight issues will stick to you like glue.
If, however, you heed the lessons of Weight Watchers, this program will offer you something unique: tips, advice, and support for changing your habits so that you start eating healthfully, thinking healthfully, behaving healthfully and, ultimately, living healthfully. Weight Watchers doesn't lie to you. Meeting leaders have been in the program a long time for a reason: people who have a tendency to overeat will always have that tendency. Weight Watchers realizes this and endeavors to help you make changes to your lifestyle and psyche that will ultimately keep you on the right track for the rest of your life.
The leaders are supportive and understanding because they've been where you are. All the leaders I've encountered on my travels have always been willing to sit and talk me through a tough time if I needed it.
I lost 47 pounds on the program and have kept it off for just under a year now. I feel great about myself, my health and my eating habits.
In my opinion, the Weight Watchers program is a great way to manage your weight loss. Like the food pyramid, Weight Watchers emphasizes eating a healthy diet that includes all of the food groups necessary for proper nutrition.
