| sharmck's Full Review: Weight Watchers 1-2-3 Success Traditional Meetings |
I first joined weight watchers when my youngest child was 5 months old. This had been my third pregnancy and I was having a hard time losing the weight by myself. I had at least 15-20 pounds that I desperately wanted to lose. Upon joining I met with a counselor who set me up with a goal weight. She told me that I shouldn't overwhelm myself with big goals and instead start off with something simple. I was given a goal weight that only required me to lose 13 pounds. Once reaching that goal if I wasn't happy I could discuss my feeling with her again and perhaps go for a new goal. The staff was very helpful in getting me started in the plan. They explained everything to me about the way the program worked and I left there with all of my questions answered.
The meeting program is very simple, how it works is like this:
You attend weekly meetings and are weighed in.
You are then given a stamp in your book showing the weight you are then and what your weight loss or gain for that week was.
You then take your seat and wait for the meeting to begin. The first order of business is that all weight losses even as small as an ounce are congratulated. Those who didn't lose or gained are also given support from the group and some encouragement. It made me feel wonderful to be in such a supportive group. Even on weeks that I didn't do very well I left there with hope. I was able to discuss with the other members tips on what I could do when I felt I would not be able to lose the weight.
Then the speaker starts with her lesson for the week.
Topics like how to choose the right foods when eating out, or how to pick and choose the foods that would be okay at a picnic. She would also explain things like, how to get more exercise into your daily routine. As well as give us recipes, which were low fat and tasty. At the end of the meeting anyone who had reached their goals or another equal accomplishment, are invited to come up to the front and share their success stories with the group. It is never required for you to speak to the group but as you start to make progress you find yourself wanting to share.
You also receive each week for the first 8 weeks a book with tips, tricks, and little motivations to help you through your plan. They have cookbooks and point guides to help you stick with the plan.
How the food plan works is this:
You are allotted a certain amount of points each day. The points you get are dependent on the amount you weigh. You then have to split up the total amount of points into your meals for the day. So say if you have 20 points. You could have 6 for breakfast - 5 for lunch - 9 for dinner =20 (This was just an example) Each food is worth a certain amount of points and you are given a guide to help you find out what is worth what.
It is all very simple and extremely well explained by their staff when you join. You also receive charts and books to help you. I found that once I was on the plan for a week or so I kind of knew what was worth what without even looking. It is very easy to learn. I loved attending the meeting because I always felt as if I had all the support and encouragement in the world. They make you feel as if you really can do it there.
The cost for this program varies. They do run specials a lot so if your thinking of joining keep your eye out for them. The basic rate is 18.00 to join and then a 12.00 a week fee. You do pay even if you don't show up. Most insurance companies back weight watchers and offer reimbursements on the fees. I highly recommend this plan as a safe and permanent way to loose extra pounds. Oh and yes I was able to reach my goal weight of loosing the 13 pounds in about 14 weeks.
