abolinger's Full Review: Braun Syncro 7546 Electric Shaver
A couple of months ago I was at the mall walking by an appliance store and I saw this razor on sale. I had been considering picking one up on eBay, but I saw this one on sale for $140 so I decided to pick it up.
The razor comes with a nice travel case, an adapter, the cleaning unit, a brush for cleaning, a container of fluid for the cleaning unit, and the razor.
Based on what the salesman told me, the only difference between this razor and the Braun Synchro 7570 is the battery indicator. The 7546 has a scale with approximately four green lights and one red one that indicates low battery charge. The 7570 has a digital display that serves the same function of displaying battery life.
Out of the box, you need to charge the razor for 8 hours, which I hate because when I get a new toy I want to use it right off the bat.
The cleaning unit is the only part that needs assembly. There is the cleaning unit and the container of cleaning fluid. To set up the cleaning unit, you press a button at the top and the cleaning unit pops up so you can insert the container of cleaning fluid. To insert the cleaning fluid container, remove the plastic stoppers at the top and slide it into the cleaning unit. Then, press the cleaning unit back down until it snaps into place. Then drop the razor into the cleaning unit and press the arm down to secure the razor in the cleaning unit. After that, plug the adapter into the cleaning unit, plug it int he wall, and press the button on the top of the cleaning unit until the charge light is illuminated. Then wait 8 hours before you use the razor.
The cleaning unit has three settings: clean, clean and charge, and plain old charge. A charge should last about a month.
The razor has a good feel. It feels substantial and it does not feel cheap or flimsy. There are three settings for the razor. Under setting one, the cutting head is flexible. Under setting two, the head is fixed. Setting 3 is for sideburns. The razor gives a very close shave.
When you're done shaving, you simply drop the razor into the cleaning unit, push the arm down to secure it, and press the button on the cleaning unit until the clean light is illuminated. The cleaning unit will make a whirring noise and clean the razor for you. It is relatively quiet and the cleaning process takes about five minutes. I took the foil off the razor to see what the inside of the razor looked like after it cleaned itself and it looked brand new inside after cleaning the razor. The cleaning fluid container needs to be replaced approximately once a month or so. A light on the cleaning unit will illuminate to let you know when it's time to change the cleaning fluid unit.
The only consumables on this razor are the cutter block, the foil, and the cleaning fluid. I believe the life of the cutting block and foil are approximately 12 months. The cleaning fluid unit will need to be replaced every month or so. I got a good deal on replacement cleaning fluid for $10 for a box of two cleaning fluid containers from drugstore.com. Amazon.com charges $20 for it, so drugstore.com is the best way to go.
The carrying case is very nice. It has space for the razor, the cleaning brush (for use when you're traveling and you don't want to take the cleaning unit with you) and the adapter. The adapter plugs into both the razor when you're traveling and the cleaning unit when you're at home.
I would highly recommend this razor for anyone who's fed up with dropping money on Mach3 cartridges or sick of cleaning their electric razor. This razor is very easy to use on a daily basis and it's always spotlessly clean. The battery life on the razor is great, lasting about a month on a charge.
