Maybe You Could Use It As A Neck Massager
Written: Dec 02 '01 (Updated Aug 22 '04)
Why I Purchased This Trimmer
The trimming of nose hair isn't usual conversation found at social gatherings, but many us have to do it (and some really need to but don't) so I guess this is as good a forum as any to discuss it.
I've wanted a rotary trimmer for a while to help in personal grooming, but the only ones I could find were in the Sharper Image catalog (they cost $40 and $60).
I've seen small blade trimmers for around $20, but felt a rotary would be easier to use. So when I saw this inexpensive Conair in the store I had to give it a try.
How This Trimmer Has Performed
I cut open the package of my Conair trimmer, ignored the instructions, and inserted a new AA alkaline battery as required. After turning it on the trimmer buzzed and vibrated and the blade twirled. I thought it was pretty quiet but sounded a little weak. Then I gave it a whirl and found it hardly cut any hair.
I thought I must not be using it correctly, even though this isn't rocket science. So I turned to the instructions, only to discover they don't tell you how to use it, only how to clean it and insert the battery. I confirmed the battery was installed correctly and tried again.
Still no luck. I tried all sorts of cutting angles, checked to see that the blade was installed correctly and put in a different battery. This poorly engineered Conair will not trim hair.
What I Like About It
Not much I'm afraid, except that it looks good sitting on the counter with it's sleek chrome finish.
It has a 2 year warranty (but you have to pay postage both ways, so it will cost you at least $6 to get this $10 trimmer replaced if something were to break).
What I Don't Like
When trying to use this trimmer, it emits a strong mechanical burning smell. And since it's pretty much up your nose at the time, there's no way to avoid smelling it.
I can't reiterate this enough: it doesn't cut hair.
Overall
This trimmer just does not work. Period. Buy another brand, or at least a better model, even if you have to pay more.
As for this one, since it doesn't cut anything, just turn it on, lie back on the handle and get a nice little neck massage (just a joke - please don't try this at home).
