Why did I buy this crazy thing?
Recommend this product?
I bought this product on an impulse when I ran across it at Target. I was somewhat skeptical of how it might work...but there's not really too many people you can ask for a recommendation. I certainly wasn't going to ask the 20 year old hunk of testosterone that was working that area of the store. Although he DID give me a big smile as he watched me reading the box. I hadn't blown $20 on something frivolous for quite a while...so I plunked down my money and headed home eager to trim my beaver.
The first thing I noticed was it felt a bit flimsy in my hand. My first impression was that I could probably expect a few months use, but anything over a year was not likely. Mine came with 2 AA batteries, but they were not alkaline and they did not last long. The device gave me a halfhearted effort at best with these batteries. I attributed the lack of performance to the batteries being on the shelf for a long time. I replaced them with fresh alkaline batteries and the little motor whirred like crazy.
How do you like your carpet?
Some people like shag carpet; others like pile; while some prefer linoleum to carpet. There are pros and cons associated with each type. If you like shag, disregard this product for you have no need of it. If you like linoleum, beware, I tried to remove my hair down to the skin and got a nasty nick. It felt like shaving with a year old blade. The only type of carpet you should use this trimmer on is pile (or to get to pile).
This device was designed to trim the whole muff, not to shave the hair where your bikini hits. The trimmer has five adjustable settings with the trim guard. it can also be used without the trim guard for a close trim. Although I wouldn't recommend using it without the trim guard. The instructions are somewhat vague - I guess they figure the less they say the better. After all, you're voluntarily placing a cutting device on or near your most sensitive areas.
How did it work for me?
Using the longest settings had little effect because, when I'm not a linoleum girl, I keep my muff neatly trimmed. It did even me out somewhat, but for the most part the cutting surface was too far from me to make a difference. When it did finally start cutting hair, at setting 2, it seemed to really be working hard. I had to go over the same area multiple times to get the look I wanted. If you're starting out with a completely unshorn muff - I suggest you use scissors or a standard beard trimmer to eliminate most of the excess hair. If you started from scratch with this product you should make it your evening project, and have at least one spare set of batteries.
After some effort, I got my mound shorn to the level I wanted. I then, against my better judgment, took off the trim guard in an attempt to remove all the hair at the bottom between my legs. All I can say is...don't try this. I started where my leg meets my groin and tried trimming in toward the center. I got a nick almost immediately. Actually, this was a good thing, because I'd rather get nicked closer to my leg than farther from it. I'm also guessing that whatever would nick the relatively thicker skin at my leg might really tear up the more tender skin in the middle.
Would I buy it again?
This is really the ultimate question for consumers. In the case of this product, the results are not clear cut. It depends on what you want for YOUR muff. If you want a totally clean shaven, no hair at all down there..I'd stick with disposable twin / triple blades. (I have good luck with Gillette Sensor Excel blades.) If you just want to keep your muff presentable, but don't want the landing strip or other such pattern, then this product might work fine for you. And as mentioned above, if you want a thick bush for your significant other(s) to wade through, then you're probably not even reading this anyway.
I have not tried this myself, but the trimmer does produce a vibration that some might find appealing if they placed the shaft (NOT THE CUTTING HEAD) in just the right spot. It's not an especially noisy device, so those of you who would like a covert toy...this might serve your purpose. Just don't expect true toy performance - like using pliers when you really need a crescent wrench - it'll do, but don't expect peak performance.
