A few months ago I purchased this razor on a whim at my local K Mart. Why did I waste $20.00 on this???.. I’m not entirely sure… but I’m glad that I did. This has saved me several trips to the barbershop already this summer. At ten bucks a haircut it really ads up when I get it cut every two weeks. I have always hated being charged ten bucks on a “buzz” cut when it only takes the guy two minutes to do it!
I purchased this razor to have other people do it for me, and… for free! hehe Actually, this razor is so convenient and idiot-proof I even have cut my OWN hair with it a few times, only needing a second party to do the touch-up work – REALLY!
All ‘Bout The Razor
RECHARGABLE / CORDLESS: As I said above, I paid only $20.00 for this razor. It’s actually surprising that it’s so cheap because it is rechargeable – and you can even use it plugged in if the charge runs low. The charge lasts about three haircuts, or about 30 minutes. The unit is light, ergonomic (really!), and very portable.
ADJUSTABLE PIECE: The adjustable attachment is perfect! With this razor you don’t need 7 different attachments for different hair lengths – what a concept! This razor has a simplified plastic attachment that you can easily move to seven different settings, or remove it entirely to do the “edging” afterwards.
At first I thought that this was too flimsy and would alter its setting at the worst time and give me a “Mohawk”. But, I have not had it slip on me at all. Wherever I set it, it stays. In the long run, however, I do not expect this piece to last more than a year or so, it just seems too fragile. I expect it to break in March, 2002 just after the warranty has expired.
DETACHABLE RAZOR: With a little pressure on the blade in the right direction, the razor assembly snaps right off. This feature allows cleaning out the “inside” of the razor. They even include a small brush for such a use. You may think that the detachment may accidentally occur when cutting hair – but this will only happen if you draw blood from the person at the same time...hehe - you really have to press hard to snap it off.
SHARPNESS: I do not have any complaints about this razor not being sharp enough. It seems to vibrate quite fast and efficiently – cutting the hair and as opposed to pulling it out by the roots – that is always a good thing <grin>. And, if it does become dull, the razor can be sharpened (I suppose), or even replaced (I assume).
My Overall Opinions On The 20XL
I am pleasantly surprised with this purchase. At only $20.00 this has already saved me a considerable amount of money this summer with my buzz-cuts. And, I was amazed to find that I am actually able to cut my own hair – wacky! The packaging (yes, I still have it – 2 year warranty) boasts “Pays For Itself In Two Haircuts” – and they do not lie!
I expected to throw this into the junk drawer after trying it out – but find it up in my cabinet instead. Good job Norelco! I love it when something saves me money and this does the job.
