"Here's something for you to review," said my wife, dropping a small plastic package on my desk.
"I can't review this!"
"Why not?"
"It's pink!" I replied, struggling for words.
"So? You wrote a review on the fiberglass in the attic."
"Yes, but this is a ladies product. You know, woman's stuff." I squirmed.
"It's an electric shaver. You do remember shaver's don't you?"
I stroked my full, bushy beard. "Well, maybe once down by the cantina."
"So get busy."
"Okay. Tell me what's special about it."
"It cuts leg and underarm hairs smoothly, no pulling, no nicks, no cuts."
"Big deal!" I grinned.
"Hey! Do you remember when we were dating and I borrowed your razor?"
"Hell yes. It took them an hour in the emergency room to stop my face bleeding. It was a new blade too. You could've warned me."
"Stop whining and write." She smiled evilly. "Tell them it's the best shaver I ever used. It cuts really close and smooth with no razor burn, not even on my sensitive skin."
I took a look at it. Hmmm... The Panasonic Smooth Operator ES204V is small, about 4 inches long, 2 inches wide, and just an inch thick. It is a pinkish lavender color, and made from a hard, fairly robust plastic.
"Hey. It looks a bit like a bar of soap. Better not leave it too close to the sink." I quipped with a grin.
"It wouldn't matter, silly. It's waterproof."
"Why?"
"So you can shave in the shower, the bath, the hot tub or the swimming pool."
"You shave in the swimming pool?"
Silence...
Hmmm... Okay. The plastic top fitted down so that it blocked the only visible switch. You could not turn the shaver on without removing it. Clever. A label stuck to the top has the web-site and the service number printed on it. Handy.
On the head of the shaver, the foil area is about 2 inches by half-an-inch. Much smaller than a male shaver, for those smaller spots I guess. Two buttons on the side open the top, probably for cleaning. Small, double edged oscillating blade. Cool. The only other switch pops up a sideburn like clipper.
"What's this for, Hon?"
"It's a bikini trimmer."
"You shave your bikini?"
"Why else would I need a shaver in a swimming pool, dummy."
Oh. Now it made sense in a female sort of way. You know, woman's stuff.
The base was a bit hard to remove. Still, I guess it needed to be a firm fit to be waterproof. Inside were two AAA batteries. Well, at least they are easy to buy.
"How long will these batteries last, do you think?"
"At least an hour in constant use according to the web site."
I added a couple of AAA NiMH rechargables to my shopping list.
"Cool," I said. "How much did it cost?"
"Well, it's normally about $30, but I got it from the Panasonic Site for $15 and no shipping charge."
"The Smooth Operator? A sale on the Smooth Operator?"
"Coast to coast, LA to Chicago, order by mail. Across the north and south, to Key Largo, half-price sale." She grinned Sade-istically.
"Wow! That is music to my ears. At that price, everyone will want one."
"That's why you have to get the word out."
"Well okay, but what should I say about reliability?"
"They gave a good rating." She nodded to a pile of magazines in the corner.
"Yeah. But, we aren't allowed to quote them. How about if I say, you can use it to trim a hedge?"
Silence...
You know. I hate reviewing women's products. :)))

While totally safe in normal use, the unit will operate with the foil head removed and the cutting blade exposed. For this reason, I strongly recommend storing it away from children.
While the above tale is largely fictional, my wife does have extremely sensitive skin. She heartily recommends this shaver, for its power, performance, ease-of-use and convenience. She much prefers it to the full-size Remington shaver she had been using.
This unit is freely available across the web for about $30. However, Panasonic currently have it on sale on their site for $15, and free shipping. There is no way to tell how long this sale will last.
