When I first became an Epinions member, one of my first reviews was of my Remington TripleScreen TA4570. I gave it a good review and mentioned that the pro's outweighed the con's.
Today, that is not the case. I have had it with this razor. I cannot count the number of replacement shields I have had to buy. And since most retail stores do not carry just the shield (you must buy the 3 blades and shield combo), then I am forced to pay $17 each time the shield breaks.
You might be asking me, "Why don't you just use the broken shields". Well, you can.....if you want to look like a car wreck victim with facial cuts everywhere.
The bad thing is that if the shields could hold up longer, the razor would be a good razor. It is durable, charges quickly, and is easy to pack when traveling. However, you cannot predict when the thin shield is going to chip, and you are going to be shaving with a vibrating blade right up against your skin.
Also, and this is the most frustrating, the grey color of the razor seems to begin 'transferring' from the razor to your face. I can shave, and just a few minutes after starting, I look like a hobo clown with a 5'oclock shadow. When I first bought this razor, I would get ready for work and then shave on the way to work. Now, I cannot do this, because I am forced to shave before bathing so that I can wash the silvery-gray film off of my face and neck.
I was in a Remington factory outlet store a few months ago and mentioned this to the employees. They said the shield was very thin and that I should keep the protective plastic cover over the shield when not in use. I tried that, and have since replaced the cover twice. I don't think it's the cover. I think the shields are cheap and flimsy!!
Anyway, today, the last shield has broken for my Remington razor. I just added a Braun Synchro 7570 Razor to my Christmas wish list.....I can't wait to replace the remington.....
