Pros:Tons of room for storage, small enough to take anywhere
Cons:Faulty USB cable, surface scratches easily
The Bottom Line: A great little hard drive that you can take everywhere!
I am not particularly knowledgeable on anything technical dealing with computers. But as a graphic designer and freelance photographer, it is an absolute necessity to have a reliable means to back up files. After looking at several different hard drives, I picked up the WD My Passport Essential.

I got the 500 gb model rather than the 1 tb. I can't imagine who would need a 1 tb hard drive! I have backed up all of my pictures over the years (that is a LOT of pictures), work files, my adobe suite, my school projects, and all the files I don't need on my computer. And there is still plenty of room.
My Passport is very compact and tiny, which I love because I can take it everywhere with me. It fits neatly in my computer case, in my book bag, and in my purse. I'm sure it would fit in my back pocket, but I've never bothered to try.
The one thing I don't like--and maybe it's just mine, but--the USB cable is very sensitive in the port. If I slightly readjust the way I'm sitting, a box will pop up warning me that my "device has been removed!" This is very frustrating when I am working on something directly from the Passport. I have to enter my password time and time again to unlock it. One day I'm going to look into getting a replacement USB cable, but so far none of my files have been corrupted so I'm not in a hurry.
Overall, this is a great hard drive. It definitely gets the job done, and stylishly!
