Pros:Quick cutting ability, easy to replace chain.
Cons:Tension adjustment can be a bit tricky
The Bottom Line: If you already own a chainsaw for larger work, this is a good addition
I bought the jawsaw because we have plenty of trees and shrubs that constantly need trimmed or cutting, and the Jawsaw demonstrations that I saw on TV showed that it was really good for smaller trees and shrubs. I liked the fact that it is made so that you cannot cut yourself accidentally while using the saw, and the blade seemed to glide effortlessly through the wood.

I used it on trees which were about a foot in circumference, and it handled the work fine. You have to use some pressure on the handle, as you press it down to engage the chainsaw, but it's not hard to push and I think that even most seniors could use this saw.
The saw automatically oils itself, and if the chain comes off, it's not very hard to get it back on. You simply use the small tool sent with the saw and open the door to get to the chain. There is a small plastic block attached to the cord and this locks the handle so that the chainsaw bar is in exactly the right position to receive the chain, and it keeps the jaw from closing on your hand. It took me about 10 minutes or so to get the chain back on.
The biggest problems that I had with the saw was trying to get the chain in the right tension on the bar. This requires some practice to get a feel for the right tension, but the manual does give you visuals to help - although the picture is very small. I ended up making a larger copy on my printer.
The second problem that I had was when I tried to use it on brush - the chain kept catching on the several branches on the brush that was on the ground and the chain would sometimes come off. It could be that I did not have the tension as tight as it should have been. When cutting on the ground, as the commercials show, there is a problem of the chainsaw digging into the dirt, so it's a good idea to place the branch that you are cutting on another log, or leaves, to bring it off the ground.
Overall, it's a nice addition to tree tools. I wouldn't say that it replaces a chainsaw, as it is not supposed to be used while standing on a ladder or to prune a tree, but it is a handy tool to have for outdoor work
