Pros:Cheap, long lasting, flat-proof, strong, load-bearing, smooth riding, good gripping.
Cons:Heavy.
The Bottom Line: A great bargain, a great tire. Excellent, flat-free urban tire, ready to go to work for you.
The Slickasaurus tire has served me faithfully for years now, with no flats, gradual wear, and great stability. It has held up in all weather, and under severe loads. LONG after the tread was gone, I finally, after many years and countless miles, replaced my rear Slickasaurus with another one. Even well after the tread was gone, this tire was flat-free and tough under loads.
I'm using the 700 x 35c size on my hybrid Lemond Wayzata, which also carries a rack, a 15 lb child carrier, a 35 lb child, and my own 175 lb. body. In addition, I sometimes have another 20 lbs or more in my backback.
The Slickasaurus is big enough and tough enough to get us over all manner of Toronto's potholes, cracks, and glass. And all without a single flat!
This is a great urban tire, for eating up the road and lasting a long while. It also is happy on the occasional dirt path. Throw away your knobby tires and put them on that MTB that never sees the trail. You'll be thankful for the quicker ride.
I would, however, hesistate to choose this tire for longer commutes. It's a wire bead tire, and a thick tire at that. It takes a fair amount of energy to turn these babies. That's fine for short hauls without much in the way of hills, but you might look elsewhere if you're piling on the distance and/or tacking slopes.
One last comment. These are regularly sold by Nashbar and other outlets for a mere ten bucks. And you should see options for both 26 size (MTB) and 700c (road bikes, hybrids). Thus, they should work for most commuters.
