Gate 1 was phenomenal for Thialand trip

by alp2008 , Sep 02 '08
Pros: The tour guide, the excursions, the price, the flights
Cons:

Our second hotel (not the worst, but could have been better)

I traveled with Gate 1 in January of 2008 on a tour of Thialand - specifically Bangkok and Phuket. Finding a good group tourI chose them only after my travel partner and I searched a whole weekend for the best deal with the most ...

Paris at Thanksgiving 2004, Nice trip but some problems

by rlesino , Jan 02 '05
Pros: Cheap trip, hotel had a good buffet and was close to Metro.
Cons: Gate 1 does not provide enough directions.
Hello: I have traveled to Europe many times, but this was my 18 year old daughter's first trip. We booked with Gate 1 for the first time, we liked the price. However, my suspicions were confirmed that a low price does not equate to a good trip with ...

Gate1 Travel's 11 Day Athenian with 3-Day Cruise package

by hbva , Jul 07 '08
Pros: Some of the sites visited were spectacular, especially Ahens, Meteora, Rhodes, and the incomparable Ephesus.
Cons: Overrated hotels, rushed guided tours, shabby cruise ship, overpriced shore excursions, terrible contract airlines.
My overall impression is that this is a "budget" tour at a "first class" or "deluxe" price. Everything is vastly overrated. My advice: Stay away from Gate1, if you have other options! Gate1's contract hotels are not anywhere close to 5 or 4 stars, as ...

Gate1travel.com's 11 day trip to Israel

by ts1m , Oct 04 '08
Pros:

The hotels. The food, The tour guide. The value.

Cons:

The alloted shopping time could be shortened.

The Daniel Dead Sea Hotel.

We can not begin to say enough about both our experience with Gate1 and the trip to Israel. Gate1 packs so much into this trip it is almost unbelievable. The value is not to be compared with other tour operaters. First, booking the ...

Gate1 is a Great1

by cargofever , Sep 24 '06
Pros: Inexpensive, convenient, full independence of travel
Cons: Payment process, no live operators, unusual booking process
We used Gate1 Travel for the first time for a 10-day rail tour of Italy. Our agent was Lee, and he was very helpful, courteous, and responsive. Even though Gate1 has an unusual method of booking, we had no trouble with it. We decided to pay a little ...

Eastern European Highlights

by t5665 , Sep 23 '06
Pros: We did get to see Eastern Europe
Cons: Our tour purchased from Gate1 was not what we received
We purchased what we thought was a fourteen-day Eastern European Highlights tour from Gate1 Travel, scheduled for September 1, 2006, reservation number 94329. When we arrived in Vienna, it turned out to be a Kompas Central European Panorama tour from a ...

by mko53 , Apr 20 '07
Pros: Small group; comfortable bus; great guides; Segovia, Toledo, Madrid, Barcelona, San Sebastian, Bilbao!
Cons: Limited time to shop/tour on our own; Burgos (boring); avoid Easter travel.
We booked our own flights and travelled using Gate 1 with a small group on a bus for an art and wine tour of northern Spain, and including Bilbao,San Sebastian, Burgos, Segovia, Toledo, Madrid and Barcelona. The tour was entitled a nine day tour of art ...

Spain and Portugal June 2007

by oakvalley9 , Sep 16 '07
Pros: good itinerary, great bus coach, city guides
Cons: Second rate hotels, very poor airport connections, little empathy for the customer, no reimbursements
Our 17-day package started in Madrid, bused through Portugal, then back to Spain ending with a flight to Barcelona. The cities were interesting and the local city guides quite good. The hotels were second rate especially in Madrid where we were all on ...

Venice/Rome Special in January 05

by itpaysoff , Feb 04 '05
Pros: This is a great cheap way to get to Europe if your adventurous.
Cons: Upgrade your hotels as my awful experience in Rome taught me the hard way.
Gate 1 is not a tour - it's a "get you there and put you up" kind of package, with ala carte tours you can purchase. There are three tiers of quality for hotels. I choose the lowest, with three star hotels and bought a few of their tours. I had a ...

Extremely happy with Gate1 Travel

by lmcmillan601 , Jul 14 '08
Pros: The value! Gate1 provides MUCHO for a fraction of the cost.
Cons: On most mornings, expect to wake up early for morning tours.
Hello, I am a teacher who spends my summers traveling as much as possible, but on a teacher's salary, budgeting is a must! I feel like I have found a well-kept secret in Gate1 travel. I just got back from my second trip with Gate1 travel "11 day ...

Nile River Cruise on King of the Nile-Gate1 Tours

by vegaslb , Oct 15 '07
Pros: Great itinerary and value! Intelligent, entertaining guides Awesome people!
Cons: Dirty ship, TERRIBLE food, smog and fumes make it hard to breathe, poor airport organization.
What a trip of Pros and Cons! Egypt was fascinating, awesome and humbling. It was also dirty, had no functioning toilets at the temples and exhibits (but you paid for the privilege and a couple of sheets of toilet paper handed out from the sweaty palm of ...

Venice, Florence and Rome by rail

by butterbutt , Mar 06 '08
Pros: Great value and good service
Cons: None. We had a good travel experience in all aspects, air, rail and hotel.
This was my first trip to Europe not using an escorted tour service. I was a little uncertain how we would manage getting to the train station, how long would the trip take and how to get to the next hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and ...

11 Day Kaleidoscope

by travelerjm , Sep 06 '05
Pros: Cost effective, colorful and beautiful culture/ history, Machu Picchu, floating reed islands on Lake Titicaca
Cons: not responsive, not accountable, who is this travel host anyway?
My third time traveling with Gate 1, my husband and I went on a guided tour through Peru. We enjoyed the tours, learned a lot from our knowledgeable and friendly guides, but we felt the pressure to shop at every folk-art station was a bit ridiculous. ...
