Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas Sipper. Low maintenance.
Cons: Suspension.
The Bottom Line: The bottom line: The Honda Civic is outstanding. Its great on gas too. Consumer reports ranked "1998" as the best year for this civic.

Out of the 7 cars I ever owned my 98 Honda civic was the best! This car took me from Arizona to California to Washington and then back to Florida. IT was a gas sipper! I never changed the timing belt, seals, transmission, clutch......nothing! ... read more

I SOOOOO Much miss my Civic HX- STANDARD Transmission Coupe. I bought it new in 1998 and sold it in 2006 (with $135Kmiles) as I need to upgrade to a bigger car for my kids. It was an AWESOME car. It never left me stuck anywhere. The gas mileage was ... read more

Jul 24, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, Great Mileage.
Cons: Road Noise, Manual windows are sticky, Hood rattle creates an annoying buzz when idle.
The Bottom Line: This is a great vehicle for anyone with a tight budget. Its great on gas and requires very little repairs over and above general maintenance. Not recommended for long commutes

I have had my 98 civic for about 2 years now. I originally purchased it for $10,000 (CA) which I felt was a little high at the time. After I purchased it I soon discovered that it required a major maintenance service being at 98,000 kms. I took it to ... read more

by
May 9, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, size, EX package very nice
Cons: The dealership's service departments and electrical issues
The Bottom Line: Good car for the first few years!! I'd buy another one.

Definitely an economy car, but I felt that it was nicely equipped. Not the zippiest car in the world, but again, didn't expect that it would be. Decent gas mileage, but not as good as Honda says it should be. I think that's usually the case with new ... read more

Not a long lasting investment

by
Nov 5, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Smooth ride on highway. Decent gas mileage.
Cons: Engine parts are popular with thieves due to VTEC. Dying before 100,000 miles. Not reliable.
The Bottom Line: Buy a toyota instead.

Before I got my Honda, I had a Toyota that spoiled me. I had the Toyota for 10 years. It only stranded me a few times during those 10 years (due to battery and alternator problems). It was 5 years old when I bought it, so it lasted a good 15 years. ... read more

The Bottom Line: If you're starting out with your first car, get it. But Once you got experience, Step it up for something else.

Man what was I thinking... I'll Tell you what I was thinking... Just a new car... I was graciously blessed with my Black Honda Civic When I was 16 years old by my parents who were originally going to give me our old 1987 Nissan Stanza... Now that Stanza ... read more

Pros: okay in every area of driving
Cons: okay in every area of driving. No personality.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a car that will start, drive, stop and not cause you grief with random break downs then you can look at this one.

This is more a public service announcement more than a review. I bought my CX hatchback brand new from the dealer in 1998 and still drive it today. I wish I had made the jump to power steering and A/C but there is nothing to do about it now. The ... read more

Pros: reliable, small, good resale

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: RELIABLE! a sea of after market parts! the '55 Chevy for the new millenium?
Cons: none!
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to anyone. It's very easy to drive and hassle free which is great for inexpierienced or elderly drivers. Limitless possibilites if you want to customize!

Last summer, I was in the market for a used car. After having several late model VW's given the thumbs down by my trusty mechanic and watching the side moldings peel off of a friend's Golf I decided that maybe a Japanese car was the way to go. My ... read more

Pros: Awesome look, great reliable vehicle
Cons: short warranty
The Bottom Line: This is a great reliable car, even 5 years later. The body is very stylish and the drive itself is smooth.

So a week or so ago I was searching around epinions for fun. I figured I'd see what people said about my car. After a few variations of a search for Honda Civic 1998 and no results I was in shock. My car not in the epinions database?! It was an outrage. S ... read more

I bought my Honda Civic EX in October of 1998. No problems with the mechanical parts. It is good on gas. The price was right - $15,500. I received a 4.9% interest rate for 48 months. The best car that I have ever owned. I have owned 3 other cars. I have ... read more

A Civic Experience

by
Aug 29, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: nicely loaded with standard equipment (EX model), good commuter car
Cons: not enough power, jerky transmission, creaky roof (sunroof area), loud engine
The Bottom Line: Great car; if the new models have resolved any of the above cons, the car would be near perfect for anyone looking for a reliable car with all the goodies.

In early 1998 I decided I was ready for my first brand new car. I decided to pass on my old faithful 1989 Pontiac Grand Am to my younger sister, and start looking for my new vehicle. I did not look far, I knew I wanted a Honda. I originally wanted an ... read more

Pros: Very reliable, great gas mileage, over 50K miles and no problems
Cons: not a lot of power
The Bottom Line: If your looking for a reliable car that is great on gas mileage and looks good, buy a Honda Civic Ex.

I've had my Honda Civic Ex since June of 1998. I've logged over 50,000 miles on it commuting to and from work in heavy Southern California traffic. I haven't had any problem with the engine or anything else. It is very low maintenance and gets great ... read more

It's okay, but...

by
Jun 6, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: reliable, well made, great for parking
Cons: no power, bad gas mileage, leaky hatchback(?)
The Bottom Line: I probably won't buy a Honda again since the gas mileage is not what I was led to believe it would be.

I bought this 2-door hatchback used in the spring of 99 with 20K miles on it. It has been quite reliable for my daily 90 mile round trip commute to work. I have put over 50K miles on it in just over 2 years without any major problems. All accessories, ... read more

Pros: 4 wheel double wishbone suspension, great engine sound, nimble handling, quick, light, steering response, economical
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for the best made, sporty, economical, and reliable subcompact in the U.S. it would be foolish to not at least test drive a Honda Civic.

In 1999 I purchased a brand new Nissan Sentra GXE. It was a comfortable, competent, sedan, but I had a feeling it wasn't for me. (READ:A bit too bland) About a year later I returned to the dealer where I bought it to check out their used lot. ... read more

Hoorah for Honda!

by
Feb 27, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice styling, good gas mileage, solid handling, affordable
Cons: Not terribly powerful but pretty quick for a compact car
The Bottom Line: Feels solid and turns in above average performance. You can buy cheaper cars in this class, but for the money, you can't beat the Civic.

I have owned probably 12 different compact cars in the last 10 years, so I feel somewhat qualified to write an opinion on this subject. My last car, a 1987 Civic Hatchback, was so dependable and economical that I decided to get another ... read more

The Bottom Line: Great car with terrific gas mileage.

I bought a '98 Honda Civic HX in early 1999. It was a new model that was just not cleared off the lot so I got a great deal on it. All I can say is, "This car gets great gas mileage!". I have a manual transmission and have gotten up to 41.2 mpg on a ... read more
