19" Cub Cadet Lawn Mower With a Honda Engine

by popsrocks popsrocks is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Home and Garden, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jul 12 '08
Pros: Starts immediately, Runs well, cuts clean
Cons: It's heavy. That may be a plus
I have a moderate to large sized lawn by Nassau County, Long Island Standards with a 60' X 180' lot. Though I think its large enough for a big lazy guy to use a rider mower to do the chore of cutting the lawn, in reality it isn't. Home Depot in my ...

A great mower for the price - stacks up against the best.

by branshew , Aug 15 '08
Pros: Cut, mulching, easy to start, easy height adjust, premium engine
Cons: only 19" wide
. I went in search of a new mower to replace my 12 year old Snapper Hi-Vac that was on life support. In case you can’t tell by its age, I really liked the old Snapper and it provided many years of good service with minimal maintenance. I wanted a ...

A mixed bag(ger)

by arootbeer , May 30 '07
Pros: Powerful, effective mulching cut
Well designed mulching deck
Heavy - gives you a workout
Cons: Heavy - not for everyone
Warm start can take some doing
Let me start out by saying this is a fantastic lawn mower. It should have enough power for any homeowner, and it certainly performed a lot better than the mower it replaced (a "4 HP" Murray push mower). I purchased this mower because of a positive ...

Cub Cadet CC500

by megs_dad , May 07 '07
Pros: Light, maneuverable, quiet, strong motor, cuts well in all grass types.
Cons: Kickback on restart, cutting height.
I purchased this lawn mower because my 5 year old Honda HR215HX blew a gasket between the oil pan and the block. Given the cost to repair it, I decided on buying a new one. It had given good service, but the cost to repair the motor was substantial ...

Good mower at a great price

by hazozita , Jun 02 '07
Pros: See above
Cons: See above
While MTD is not known for making the most durable products, the Cub Cadet CC-500 is a great value. HD had it on sale for $199 and, at that price, there's nothing else out there with as many features. The engine is an OHV type but is NOT made by Honda -- ...

Great mower for not a lot of dollars

by ssokolich , Aug 07 '07
Pros: Great value with unexpected features for the price
Cons: It's only 72 pounds but having it even lighter would be nice.
I just purchased this mower yesterday and have used it only once. So take that into account. However, I'm really impressed with it. It has a lot of nice features for the money ($229 at home depot) and has an OHV engine to boot. Very easy starting. And ...

19" Cub Cadet Lawn Mower Review

by paulenglish19 , Sep 23 '08
Pros: Cut nice, started easy
Cons: warranty is worthless, breaks easy
I purchased the lawnmower in June of 2008, and used it on a small patch of grass that is too narrow for my riding lawnmower to mow. I only mow the stretch a few times a year. The mower started great each of the three times I used it, however, ...

Great mower

by porcupine1 , Sep 02 '07
Pros: easy staring, quieter than most
Cons: None yet
Like many others here I bought used mowers. As long as they worked and they were cheap, I'd buy it. My last lasted 12 years until some one forgot to check the oil :) Time to treat myself. I went to all the major outlets including Home Depot. Saw a lot ...

Very Happy... So Far.

by jevans369 , May 30 '08
Pros: Built solid,Powerful Nice even cutting
Cons: Wish I bought sooner.
My (2) yards; front 15x25, rear 12x20, are relatively small. I was looking and did purchase a Sunlawn manual reel mower. I felt that my small yards didn't require a gas mower and I didn't want the hassle of electric (cord). I considered several cordless ...

Cub Cadet CC500
by enigma960080 ,Jun 03 '07
Pros: easy mowing in tight quarters
Cons: Under-powered, Recoil kickback on every restart. rear wheel drive issues
One Bad Apple??? By far the WORST performing mower I have ever walked behind. After 3 uses, the rear drive could not propel the mower if the bag was more than 25% full. The Engine seemed to be underpowered and would bog in taller grass. The narrow deck made tight cuts a little easier. This was the first Cub I have ever owned, Last? who knows....

Cub Cadet starting problems
by unclebuck48 ,May 03 '09
Pros: Works great once it starts
Cons: Very hard to start.
I have had my Cub Cadet CC500 gas powered mower for about 1 year and it has never started easy. It usually takes about 20 pulls. I don't get it, I've seen reviews stating how easy it was to start. I put a new spark plug in it, the air filter looks brand new and it is still a struggle to start. Any ideas?

Beware
by evanwellens ,Aug 31 '09

Stay Away From Cub Cadet Walk Behind Mowers
by papatia ,May 26 '09
Pros: The mower is a nice yellow color and the price was reasonable.
Cons:  Bad design and cheaply made.
I brought one from Home Depot about 8 months ago, due to my 8 year old Craftsman giving me problems. I do not like the product because the craftmanship is shotty.  The mulching mechanism baffle was clunky and cumbersome.  The mulching bag was a wear out trying to empty.  I had to send it into service within the first year, due to the lever that raises and lowers the wheels was defective. It stripped, which would not allow me to adjust the blade height. I received it back from service and as soon as I tried to mow again, the lever malfunctioned. Cub Cadet even charged me for the repair eventhough the mower was less than a year old.  I will never buy anything with the name Cub Cadet.  The people at Home Depot were fantastic. They helped me and actually gave me a store credit to purchase another mower.  I bought a TORO.

Great mower
by e04660 ,May 06 '08
Pros: Lift and Mulching Gas Mileage Easy starting
Cons: It's Yellow
As stated by many other folks here, this mower performs very well for the $. I have used Lawn Boys forever, commercially and residentially and this mower performs very well by comparison, outside of the weight difference. The lift and mulching performance are great and it gets a great number of 'blades per mile' of gas. For the money it cant be touched, as for longevity, it has yet to be seen.

Worst mower ever owned - lasted only 3 months!!
by detrick_il ,Sep 29 '09
Pros: Solid construction.
Cons: Engine consumes too much oil.Cub Cadet does not stand behind their product.
We purchased this mower because of the perceived reputation of the Cub Cadet name. Unfortunately, this has been the worst mower we ever owned. It consumed a lot of oil, requiring refilling every time it was used to cut our small 0.10 acre lawn. When I was away for work, my wife used it three times and the mower engine seized. The shop proceeded to void our warranty and argued that the owner's manual specifically states that the oil must be checked prior to every use. They did not care that their faulty engine consumed inordinate amounts of oil.  The Cub Cadet ended at the curve along with the trash after three short months of use!
We replaced it with a Honda mower and are completely satisfied with the decision. It rarely requires oil refilling during normal use, which is what one would expect with a good mower.
Avoid Cub Cadet, as they not only did not stand behind their product, but became quite belligerent when we requested that the engine be replaced under their warranty.
