Pros: Great gas mileage; very maneuverable. Easy to maintain. Has proven Honda reliability. Cons: Cheap plastic paneling, which can easily break or scratch. Weak headlight. Trunk space.
I have a 2000 model Honda Elite 80, that I bought locally from a guy who owns a limo business for $750. When I bought the bike, I became the third owner. I believe the first owner had used it as a racing bike of some sort (although the top speed on the ...
Pros: Really Fun, very easy, economical, dependable Cons: Friends won't bring it back, everyone wants to borrow it
Great machine. I've had many full sized motorcycles but scooters are different. The center of gravity is much lower on a scooter making them much more stable and easier to ride. You feel like your totally in control. Also the scooter's step through...
Pros: Plenty of fun, great commuter machine Cons: Noisy wheels, passengers? No way.
First off, I love having a scooter. I commute four city miles to work now, and the trip is 15-20 minutes instead of 45 on the bus. Parking is free, traffic is avoidable. But that's the virtue of a scooter.
Pros: The engine is zippy and very reliable; and it is Lots of FUN! Cons: It has too much plastic.
So, I go to visit my college friend (class of 1972) in his summer house in Leelanau, Michigan in July. When I get back from dipping my feet in the lake waters, he shows me his new purchase - a purple motor scooter. What. . .? He tells me he bought it so...
Pros: fuel economy, fuel gauge, oil change, 4-stroke reliability, oil-tight. Cons: no kickstand, dated 80's "wedge" styling, inadequate storage capacity even compared to newer 50cc scooters.
Owned my '02 for 18 months now. it has been a reliable starter every time although typical honda cold-blooded. it goes through a 2-3 minute phase after ignition where it only wants to splutter at transition from idle to 1/2 throttle. my solution upon ...
My husband bought his Honda 80 elite to commute to work rather than purchasing a second car. This scooter is very economical. To fill up the tank it will cost a couple dollars if that. Depends on cost of gas. It would get about 100 -125 miles per gallon...
Pros: Comfortable and thrifty Cons: not very stylish
This scooter has amazing pickup for the thrifty 50 mpg. This is a very economical vehical for people who need to get around small cities. The seat to this scooter is very soft and comfortable and I could ride in it for hours. The headlights are among...
Pros: Reliable, quiet, good gas mileage Cons: Plastic body doesn't last
This is a great scooter for city driving. It's reliable, fairly quiet, easy to maneuver, and gets good gas mileage. However, two people on it going up a hill is not a good idea, don't even think about getting on a highway, and (especially sitting next...
Pros: gas mileage, fun to ride Cons: won't start after sitting for 2 months, won't carry 250LB person up a hill
We purchased 2 2000 Honda Elite 80s for use in the USVI. We chose that bike because the specs stated that it would carry 325 lbs. Unfortunately, it cannot make it up a dry, paved hill with one person who weighs 250lbs. He has to walk the scooter up...
Pros: their good if your young Cons: tires tend to sl;ip when its wet
i used to have one of these and i will say it got me around just like car. their were a couple floss i could ot go pick up a date on it or i could not drive to florida but it did get me to school and work and it was cheap to drive too. and their not as...
Pros: Economical, dependable, fun to ride, excellent value
for the money... Cons: Could have a bit more power, not really
large enough for two-up riding...
I purchased my '99 Elite 80 for $1900 plus NYS sales
tax. The only options I added to it were a trunk (which
comes in handy for storing my helmet) and a cover. I've
put 1800 miles on the 80 since buying it. With approximately

Pros: Good design with attentiuon to details. Easy to obtain parts, service and information. Good mileage. Cons: I don't prefer automatic transmissions and clutches and electric starters.
I obtained and recycled a Honda Elite 80 for $125. The scooter had 3300 mi on it, was crashed (cracked right fairing and broken mirror), and had been sitting for a number of years.I also had to get salvage title and registration ...
Pros: Low insurance, good in traffic, cheap price. Cons: Low top end speed, a bit unstable during heavy wind.........but what bike isn't
I just got a low mile used Elite 80 2003. It had 140 miles on it. The owner didn't ride very much. After my intial ride (19 miles) I have this to say. Not bad.....could be better. I enjoyed the easy handling and the ability to weave in and out of ...
Pros: Cheap, economical,...sleek, chic..affordable Cons: Safety with all those road hoggers out there
If you want to talk about gas economy, this is the vehicle you want to purchase. I can vividly remember the fun memories of the one I had. I think these scooters would make great means of transportation for crowded cities such as New York and the Bay...
I owned a 2001 Honda Elite 80 for a couple years and loved it. Fast enough for anything besides highways; I typically got mine in the high 40's, occasionally 50mph and got consistently 99mpg. Carrying a passenger was possible but did slow it down a ...
Pros: Great Gas Mileage,Quiet Motor,Ease of
Driving. Cons: Very,Very Selective Highway Driving.
Plastic,breaks very fast.
I just recently bought a new Honda Elite,it is simple to drive, good looking, and outstanding on gas.The seat is long
enough for two, also soft and comfortable. The engine is quiet

Pros: Lots of power, very reliable, excellent gas mileage, fast, mine goes 50. Cons: Doesn't take off too fast
My scooter carries, 360 pounds up a 35 degree hill @ 20 mph no problem! You can ride it all year long, even when it's cold out. At night its very fun, the speedometer lights up and looks brilliant. This model has been the same for a very long time and...
Pros: The quiet hum of the gentle engine Cons: My handling was a little off, but that was no problem
Do you feel like you're caged in? Do you want to break free of the loose ends that bind you? The Honda Elite 80 is the one to break limits and set records. This little puppy is suprisingly quiet for gentle, special rides. It soooo fun. I didn't want to...
Pros: easy on gas, cheaper to maintain than cars Cons: careful changing lane on busy street, heavy, about 200 lb.
I got an used Honda Elite 80, 1987 model to be exact. I done my research before putting down the bucks.
Compare with other Scooter out there, Honda Elite appeal to me due to the following reasons:
A little over a year ago my brain decided i would own a scooter. I had never ridden anything with 2 wheels other then a bicycle, I had only ridden on the back of a motorcycle about 4 times in my life. I started saving, took out a small loan and a few...
Pros: Mechanical excellence and fit and finish. Cons: Flimsy body panels.
I bought this from a fellow who bought it new in February 2008 and rode it 56 miles before deciding it wasn't for him. I doubled the mileage in the first day I had it and was still riding it on his gas! I knew nothing about scooters, but decided that a ...

Elite is a fitting tile for my first scooter in life by treetopguy ,Nov 25 '05
Pros: Honda engineering, lockable steering, spacious storage, helmet hook, cargo basket, 102 mpg, and vehicle weight. Cons: No complaints, but cons depend on what you want and need out of a scooter.
Five months ago I inquired about scooters at a Honda cycle dealership. Within an hour I had bought a 1998 Elite CH80 w/ 4K and the rest has been exciting personal history. The features are worth the cost of the unit. I have gone to 45 mph top speed and heeded the wisdom of knowledgeable friends to burn premium 93 octane with fuel stabilizer mixed in.
One good thing leads to another. A month ago I bought a 1985 Elite CH250 on eBay and received it nine days ago. The CH80 ought to sell soon and I am thankful I tried a smaller size machine, before buying up to the power and weight of the CH250.
Scooter riding takes practice, caution, and concentration. I'm 65 and glad I didn't put off this dream of from my teen years any longer!
Way ahead of its time - which is NOW! by zhorkon ,Nov 20 '06
Pros: More oomph than 4-cycle 50cc scooters; extreme reliability; excellent economy; proven design; easy-to-get parts availability Cons: Dated appearance to some; speed limited to urban streets; high cost new; pricey Honda parts
This scooter has been around for more than 20 years now, little changed. The bad part of that is, maybe the styling isn't for you (but some of us love it.) The good part is, this thing has long had all of its 'bugs' worked out. And Honda started with one of their typically reliable designs.
If you want reliable transportation, at around 80 mpg, over low speed routes to work or school, this machine is unbeatable. If you buy a slightly used one like I did you can have Japanese reliability at the cost of a new but far more 'fiddly' Mainland Chinese clone.
No, the Elite 80 will not do Interstates, and I'd recommend staying off any road posted above 45 MPH. And if you're real heavy (>220 lbs) or plan to carry a passenger, I'd stick to 35 MPH roads! But remember, like the plastic body parts some reviewers don't like, these are the compromises Honda made to get the terrific fuel mileage! There are other scooters - from Honda and others - with more speed and carrying capacity - but at the cost of more gas.
Pros: inexpensive, reliable, reliable, reliable Cons: less stylish than some of the other mopeds on the market right now--
love it! I had this same bike in high school (1987), and it was rode hard and yet it never gave out on me. So, it's no wonder I chose another honda 80 elite when looking for a new moped. Guess what peoples, this bike has not changed at all from 1986! I mean everything is the same and that's all good.
Terrible Maintenance Record by rohanoz ,Aug 16 '06
Pros: See above comments. Cons: See above comments.
I got my CH-80 in 2000, and have since put 11,000 miles on it, commuting and zipping around SW Connecticut. It's OK in the looks dept; is good on gas; is terrific for carrying things and getting through local traffic; is easy to park and store, and is light so you can move it easily while it's static, or tipped over. it's also quick out of a light, and keeps up well with local traffic.
BUT - maintenance has been AWFUL. I spent $2000 on it new, and have since paid about $2500 in fixing problems. These include: fuel line issues, disintegrating chain drives, brake line issues, carburetor problems, muffler problems. And i keep the thing in a garage, under a tarp. The most annyoing issue would be the carb problem, as no matter how many times the air filter is clamped on, it continually falls back off, resulting in a LOUD scooter.
Also, it slows to a 15-20mph crawl on even slight hills, which is quite annoying, both to me and the drivers behind me.
Pros: Sporty, economical, reliable Cons: Storage is limited.
After tiring of $80.00 fill ups, bought a used ('02) Elite with just 2500 miles on it. From 15 MPG's to 80 MPG's around Palm Beach, the Elite makes all the sense in the world. It has decent acceleration. It is comfortable. It is fun to drive. Honda reliability is a given.
