I've been lusting over the Magna for a long time and I finally decided to buy one this summer. No bike is perfect, but the Magna is about as close as I could get and with some minor tweaking it IS perfect (for me). Styling The Magna is ...
Pros: Powerful, great handling, comfortable Cons: Fuel tank capacity
The Magna has been around for quite a while now in it's current configuration, virtually unchanged except for a new paint scheme every year. It's not one of Honda's top sellers, but it does have a pretty loyal following among its owners, which I suppose...
In 1998, I bought a 1998 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade. Wonderful bike. Incredibly well engineered but my legs consistently got terrible cramps in them due to the placement of the pegs allowing for the horizontally-opposed cylinders. And the seat was...
Pros: Fast, reliable, smooth, handling, and absolutely unique in a world of clones. Cons: Smallish tank, single disc front brake & drum rear brake, seat uncomfortable for long rides.
I've been riding motorcycles since 1963, pretty much steady but with a couple of year or two gaps. I even spent a couple of years dirt-tracking as an AMA pro. When I decided to get another one, I knew this would be the last one for me, so I wanted a ...
Pros: Great ride, great engine, reliable, low maintenance, blue color makes it stand out. Cons: small tank, needs another disk break in front
I hang around the local Honda, Kaw., Yamaha dealership. This is a huge place that has been in business under one owner since before WWII. After seeing, sitting on, riding, talking to the mechanics, and anything else you can think of I bought a 2003 Magna ...
Pros: Acceleration; low operating costs; handling. Cons: Limited cruising range due to small fuel tank; ho-hum styling.
The Magna is what I would call a compromise bike. It has good classic looks but isn't nearly as well executed as most Harley Davidson models or even Honda's own Shadow line. What it does have is a nice torquey v-four that will blow the doors off those ...
Pros: The best damn sport-cruiser there is Cons: Seat, too much plastic
I bought my Magna almost new in Jun 2003 and have to say it's the best purchase I've ever made. Power: There are only three other production cruisers that will take this bike on the 1/4 mile: the Honda Valkrie ($13,099), Yamaha V-Max ($10,899) and H ...
Pros: ENGINE, handling, reliability Cons: fuel tank, front brake
The bottom line is this is simply a great bike, one of the best ever and a downright shame that Honda discontinued it. (Though there are rumors of a new "midrange muscle bike")I have a '95 (they virtually remained unchanged from 94-2004 as mentioned ...
Pros: Power, Handling, Decently soft spoken (read not-loud), takes skill to handle Cons: Gas mileage, Needs a 6th gear, Foot control positions, takes skill to handle :)
I've had the Magna as my first motorcycle for about a year now. Here are my opinions on this bike:
1. Runs like a dream
2. Power power and more power (for a 750 cruiser that is). It's no sports bike, but at a little over 80HP, it's no...
Pros: power, build quality, performance, real street presence, sex on legs. Cons: seat ok, painful after 3 hours riding. Tank is awful. Exhaust-Remove baffles and end-plates.
The VF750C Magna is just incredible. I'm a female, 5'6', 28-32-30 (yeah!) been riding about 3 years and about to take the IAM and Rospa test. I have had mine for nearly 2 years. The build quality is excellent and the power of the beast is simply ...
Pros: Acceleration, Handling, Ride, looks, accessories available, price (VALUE). Cons: None, be carefully of OVER accessorizing
I bought a 94 Magna in October. Since then I have been very pleased with the bike. My specific Magna has around 3k in accessories on it, and if I painted it so that it didn’t say Magna, you would never know it was a HONDA. I will list the accessories I...
Pros: Reliability, Acceleration, Handling, Versatility, Low Maintenance, Low Cost, and Awesome Good Looks. Cons: Rear Drum, Single Front Disc, Low Fuel Capacity, and a Stock Seat from He11.
When I first became interested in motorcycles, I was lucky enough to stumble upon the 1985 Magna V30 as a trainer bike.
From then on, I refuse to settle for anything less than a V4. And despite Yamaha's speed title held by it's long-in-tooth,...
Pros: Price, handling, performance, reliability and smoothness. Cons: Small fuel tank, seat.
At age 56, I wanted to experience motorcycling. I had only ridden about 300 miles total during my younger years and all of that was on 50 to 300 cc bikes. As a result, I did some preliminary research, took a local MSF training course and bought my...
Bought this '95 Magna from a local Honda dealership on Dec 2, 2002. The bike had 807 original miles, and had been re-painted grey (was Magna Yellow). The engine had been checked out, anything wrong was repaired or changed, and I was given a 90 day full...
Pros: Handling, performance, weight, comfort, low vibration Cons: small fuel tank, relative lack of customizing options
I'm a relatively finicky person. I expect things to do what their supposed to without having to spend a fortune in performance or comfort mods. This is my second summer on the Magna and I can honestly say it's exceeded my expectations. I was looking for...
Pros: Power Power Power and looks too! Cons: Fuel capacity, wind drag
I bought a 98 Magna about a year ago and these are my thoughts on this bike.......
I did not take buying a bike lightly. I do not know about you but 7500.00 is a lot of money to me.So I read review after review until I narrowed the bike purchase...
Pros: Great handling, looks, acceleration Cons: Small Gas tank and terrible seat!!!!
I just bought a new 2003 Magna this winter. I didn't buy it used simply because I like the candy blue color of the current model and If your going to spend money why not buy what you want and since we had a hard winter, the dealers where more than...
Pros: good cruising bike, great gas mileage, comfortable Cons: NONE
I purchased a Honda Magna 750 about a year ago and it was the greatest day in my life. My husband rides a Gold Wing and it was great riding on the back of this big bike, but I wanted to ride also. So we went down to the Honda shop and looked for a bike...
I purchased a '98 Magna after selling my trusty (but somewhat rusty) '69 CB750 Honda. No denying the Magnas' reliability and acceleration, but the bike does fall short in certain areas. At highway speeds, the engine revs too high; beyond the point of...
I recently traded a new 00' Yamaha YZF 600R for a 99' model Magna with
only 1,975 miles on it.
I just could not abide the hand and wrist fatigue any longer, and decided
that since I had a 1987 Magna once, why not try one again...
...
Pros: Speed, looks, style, cruiser/sports bike Cons: None
I'll start out by saying I just bought my Magna thanks to the reviews of this site. The Magna I bought from GW Cycle here in Calgary is an awesome machine. I bought the bike used for $8400 Canadian/$6100 US with 2400 Kilometers/1400 miles.
Pros: handling, looks, unique bike, throttle response, mag wheels, chrome, SPEED! Cons: stock seat, peg positions (sits straight up, get forward controls), get windshield
Just bought a nice, used '98 Black Magna with 6,500 miles. I was also looking at the Shadow 750 (ACE and Spirit) and the 650 V Star. These were the other bikes that would have fit my budget. After reading other user reviews on this website about ...
Pros: Great power, light, smooth, nimble and flickable. Beats all Harleys except Vrod in 1/4 mile. Cons: Short range, stock carburetion is lean, could use better brakes.
If you are looking for a cruiser that can do it all, you have just found it. This bike has power and it is a blast to drive. It is supposed to run mid 12's in the quarter mile stock, although I have yet to try for myself. Torque is good throughout the...
Pros: Good looking, quick for a cruiser, Handles pretty good Cons: Absolutely No Honda Customer Service, "Lean surges" throughout the RPM range, Pricey, Low cruising range
I bought a 2001 Magna and noticed right off the bat that it had a considerable lean surge. I did some research online and found that this is a common problem. Lesson learned: ALWAYS research something before you dish out a bunch of cash. Took it to...
Pros: Power! Handling Cons: drum brakes and small tanks
I bought a '02 Magna a couple of months ago and I can honestly say that it is a great bike.
It has the power to do everything I need it to do (except out run my buddies V-Max and FZ-1). But then again I only have 750cc compared to the V-Max's...
Pros: The Magna is a great, mean looking, quick and nimble bike for around town. Cons: small tank, needs overdrive for highway, it's buzzy, and a bit jerky at low Rpm's
Overall, despite my con's, I love this bike. It's a heck of alot of fun......but, most of us can only afford one bike and hope that it can do most things well. I really enjoy riding this back and forth to work, it put some spring back into my step going...
Pros: great acceleration and hangs curves with no problem Cons: uncomfortable seat
When I graduated from high school a couple months ago I had a choice of how to spend my graduation money. So I went to a local Honda shop and made a down payment on my Magna, which I had to have as soon as I saw it. It's a black and orange '99 deluxe....
I have a 1994 Honda VF750C Magna. I purchased this bike in a used condition, but very well maintained. My 94 is basically the same as the 2000 model by Honda except the newer models have a 4mm larger carbeurator setup.
Pros: Great acceleration, excellent handling, great for a city or hills Cons: small gas tank
I ride a 98 Magna and have great respect for both the bike and it's speed. Both of my brothers have Road Kings, my dad has a Fatboy and my uncle has a Heritage Springer. The Magna rocks all of their worlds when it comes to speed and agility, but the...
Pros: handles well, tight, easy cruising Cons: may be a bit high for some
I have a Honda Magna and can attest to the power found there. The bike is solid and yet so responsive I've often felt like I was on a lighter bike. The Magna can achieve great speeds and the extra gear not found on a lot of bikes is so helpful on road...
Pros: Acceleration!
Handling!
Weight?
Size?? Cons: The common carb. jetting issue.
Small tank.
Size??
My 1998 Magna is my first bike. After graduating from college, I had to get a bike. I picked it up on January 24, 2002. The next day, i rode it to work-at 25ºF (in the Detroit burbs)! Had to do it!
From January 24 - February 24, I rode 1000 miles!...
I am speaking specifically of a 1984 Magna V65, which is representative of the 'old' body style of the early to mid-80's. They are getting hard to find nowadays, but if you are looking for a definitive cruiser bike and are able to tell a lemon from a...
Pros: Great acceleration and handling. Rides like a dream. Best Cruiser on the road. Cons: Seat, some have flat spot in mid-RPM
When I was 16 I bought a 1985 700 Magna and have been in love with them ever since. I was with out a bike for the last two years and decided I needed to get another. Of course from my experience the first thing I did was to start searching for a Magna....
Pros: Lots of torque. Good for shorter people Cons: small gas tank.
Looking back, the Magna hasn't changed much from the last 5-6 years. Why mess with sucess? This mid level cruiser is fast;4 cyclinders of pure muscle. The engine is really smooth compared to other motorcycles. The design's 90-degree cylinder...
Pros: awesome power and acceleration Cons: passenger pegs too high
fuel capacity range two short
In 1999 I purchased a project bike 1982 V45 Magna and after restoring it put about 15,000 miles on it with very little mechanical problems. The main being the lack of oil to the camshaft which caused considerable wear, but other than the loss of a few...
Pros: Power you never knew you needed! Fast! Low and comfortable Handling is a dream Cons: Small gas tank
I bought my '97 Magna in '04 with 13,000 miles on it. I have since put another 21,000 on it. Never had a problem with it. It has great power, handles well in the twisties, and is pretty comfortable compared to other cruisers and most ...
Pros: Quick, smooth, easy handling. Cons: Small gas tank. HONDA WAKE UP!!!!!! What do your engineers do, ride them in Tokyo?
OK, I admit it, I like Hondas and have had 6 of them over the years and have over 100,000 miles in their saddles.
First I owned three inline fours. After my Nighthawk 650 (or was it a 750?) my two V-twin cylinder cruisers were... dull, and not interesting. Sluggish handling, and just moderately good acceleration are my main complaints.
The Magna is quite different. It's 72 lbs lighter than my Shadow Sabre, and has 24 or more horsepower. What do you think that does to acceleration and handling? Nothing but better stuff in my book.
Now that I have one, I hope they come out with another, that is unless they go to the dark side and come out with yet ANOTHER boring V-twin called a MAGNA.
Pros: Power, Power and Power. handling and user friendly Cons: Needs 6th great for long cruises. footpeg not comfy for tall riders.
I Used to go with friends to the desert and borrow their 250cc and 4500cc motocross and sometimes their quads. that's how i learned how to change gear. and my very first road bike was this 95 Honda Magna with 9375 miles on. I can't explain how easy it is to handle for a first timer on this rather heavy bike. in a weeks time i have gained full confidence in riding and i even take my wife out with me on the passenger seat. Alot of people may not recommend the Magna as your first bike, (neither do I) but it will not take you long to love it, as she is forgiving and the more you take care in riding, the more she will take care of you. :)
Pros: Fast - reliable - looks Cons: Tank too small - needs afternarket seat
I've had my 2002 Magna for three years and still can't find an all-around bike to beat it. Does everything pretty well. Longer trips require planning for gas stops, but with the stock seat I am ready to stop anyway.
Now I take a lot of 400 mile day trips, which seemed to be the Magna's weakness. I am 54 years old (been riding since 1967) and have gotten used to Magna-cruising.
Tips: (1) Get a passenger backrest and "t-bag" style bag. (2) Get the forward controls from bikercom.com (3) Get the billet brakestay from cycleistic. (4) Ride the bike A LOT!!! Even the best Honda V4 mechanic will tell you that letting 4 carbs sit around in the garage is a real bad idea. (5) Think about changing to Progressive springs in the front. (6) If you are going to be a highway rider, consider the front sprocket mod. to lower the 5th gear RPM.
Properly tuned, you will find almost no cruisers able to keep up with the Magna.
This bike is a true muscle cruiser! High RPM's leave other cruisers in your wake; crotch rockets have to actually try to keep up. This bike rocks! Extremely low maintenance, but higher rpm's make it somewhat thirsty. The engine, to only be a 750cc V-4, is curiously strong especially in the 4000-8000 rpm range. Power is smooth, and vibration is minimal. Braking is good, but we could do better than a drum in the rear. Chains are the most efficient means of transferring power from the engine to the rear wheel, and that's fine with me, since it comes so equipped. Just remember to lube it: More efficiency, more overhead. Handling is superb, and long range cruising is smooth. Oh, and the exhaust note from that intertwined quad-pipe system is to die for.
I was 52 years old when I bought my 94 magna on ebay last year. Really my first bike but I did ride 30 years ago mostly Honda Dreams and Super Hawks. I have logged 4000 miles and fell somewhat qualified to write a review after owning and riding the bike for almost a year. First off this bike is powerful but is very managable for a first bike. Things I like are; power, reliability, low maintenance costs, easy to handle, looks great, and I can blow my Harley and V twin friends away. Maybe an ego thing, oh well. The stock seat was replaced with a corbin gunfighter saddle which looks good but really is not much more comfortable than the stock seat. I usually take a break after about an hour of riding anyways. When I got the bike I put new rubber on it and had the Honda dealer check everything to Honda original specs.
Pros: Fast, comfortable, reliable, affordable. Cons: Could use a bigger fuel tank.
By far the best bike I have ever owned. I cannot imagine a more perfect machine. One of the few bikes that is amazing on the interstate as well as back roads, though it's at its best on the mountain curvies, I've ridden all day on interstates with no complaints. Only problem is you have to watch out or before you know it you are "slightly" exceeding the speed limit. Add a windshield and some bags and you're ready for anything. LOVE my Magna.
Excellent bike for the price! by jedidivemaster ,Jun 04 '06
Pros: Powerful, water cooled, pretty. Cons: Messy chain drive, turn signal indicator hard to see around my tank bag.
I bought my Magna new, off the showroom floor, with 3 miles on the OD. I sold it with 7000 miles after it was paid for because I never had time to ride it. It was a great bike that served me well. The bike would have been perfect (to me)with a shaft or belt drive, center stand, and an automatic turn signal cancel. It always had plenty of power, even with 380 pounds of riders on it.
I've seen some with aftermarket exhaust and seats, but I kept it stock, except for a factory back rest and a tank bag. I wanted to buy a floor kit, heel-toe shifter, and an engine guard with highway pegs, but I never did. Mine was bright yellow and I got complements every time I rode it.
Pros: fast acceleration, good looks, handles great Cons: small gas tank, needs 6th gear,
bought a 2002 Honda vf750c a while back. I was looking to upgrade from a 250 I bought to learn on. Ready for more power I found a used magna with 6700 miles on it. It came with a Memphis shade wind shield, aftermarket straight pipes and saddle bags. I couldn't have asked for a better ride. The seat is comfortable, it has ton's of pickup, handles like a dream, and looks good too. This bike even makes HD owners take a second look. I have been getting about 43-45 MPG around town. I don't get much of a chance to ride on the highway. High RPM's in 5th gear doing 65-70 mph it could use a 6th gear. Also the gas tank size is left to be desired. I only get about 120 before switching to the reserve. All and all I am very happy with this bike.
Pros: powerful, nice design, durable, performance Cons: small oil tank
I am a biker from Malaysia. Just sold my beloved Magna 3 months ago due to financial problem........guess what!? I am getting another Magna next week! Yes,this machine is the best sporty cruiser you can find. Magna can beats Vulcan 900, Harley Sportster 883 easily. Can't wait to own it again!
Buy one today and see what she can offers ! cheers
All Around - Best Cruiser for the money by svtmizman ,Apr 01 '04
Pros: Power, Versatility, Price, Speed, Looks Cons: Seat Comfort, Color
I am one of those people who wants to get a bang for the buck. The Magna is a down-right BOOM for the buck. Why? Firstly, it is one of the most powerful engines in a cruiser, comparable to the big V-Twins. As you pull the throttle, the HP surge will kick in and it will not let go up to 9000 rpm. AMAZING POWER!
It is small enough to manage for a beginner and versatile enough for a second or third bike. The Price is accessible for many and that makes all the appeal of this bike. Truly the best bike for the buck in my opinion (or eOpinion).
The seat is uncomfortable and the sound a bit soft.
Other than that, it is a gem to own if you can find one (Honda stopped producing these in 2004).
Pros: Power, handling, reliability and my personal favorite - head turning looks. Cons: I'll get back to you on that.
Just bought mine in Oct. 08' (towards the end of riding season, of course)so my riding time was limited. However, I can't wait until the sun peaks again! It's a very addicting experience.
I was worried that the 750cc wasn,t going to be quite enough, but there is plenty of power there to keep me interested! The chosen few that have taken her for a ride always come in with a huge smile. And being from a hilly, curvy area of the country, the good handling is also a plus.
I have nothing but good praises for the people at Honda for making such A well engineered machine!
Pros: Too many to list, in short handling, speed, the look. Cons: Needs a bigger gas can but after 100 miles its good the stretch the legs.
I bought my magna from a fellow that didnt have the time to ride. So I bought an 8 year old bike with 1600 miles on it. It was one of the best biking investments I ever made. The bike surprised me how it loved to lean in the corners and how quickly it got you to them. The look is something that turns many a head. I changed the exhaust and rejetted the carbs to make it sound better and to get the extra power out of the bike. I also changed the saddle which made the not too uncomfortable seat a pleasure to sit in all day. Check out my website for more details:
