Good starter bike.
by clintk55 ,Feb 20 '04
Pros: Reliable, simple, comfortable, cheap used. Cons: Lack of power, Lack of Power, Lack of Power
I got this bike when i had just turned 17 years old. I rode it and thought it was great. It is very very very forgiving on throttle input because it doesn't have much power. It is a pretty good bike if you don't like to go above 60mph. If you do then it probably isn't for you. That's my only problem with the bike. The brakes are even adequate, not excellent but adequate. Get it if you have never ridden.

Great all-around motorcycle
by rwr01 ,Nov 24 '06
Pros: Simplicity Handling Comfort Reliability Good-Looks Economy Light-Weight Longevity Confidence-Inspiring and FUN!!! Cons: Can't think of any.
This bike seems to get a lot of criticism, but it's my bet that most of those doing the criticizing have never owned one.
The Nighthawk 250 was my first motorcycle and was the engine size my MSF instructor recommended.
I've since moved up to an 800 cc Triumph Bonneville (which is also a great bike), but wish I hadn't sold the Nighthawk 250. Actually, the bigger and (much) heavier bike made me appreciate the Nighthawk 250 more, not less.
This is THE motorcycle to learn on and would be totally practical as your only bike (unless you do a LOT of freeway riding).
It'll do 80+ mph (I'm 6' and 180 lbs), cruise at 65 mph all day and returns 70+ mpg.
Just a great all-around bike and quite sporty in the "twisties".
