  • dr650 guerilla commuter and fire road bike

    Nov 14, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Back to basics bike
Cons: Perhaps too simple/plain for the average rider.

Summary: Mine is a 2006, although there are no real changes in the model since the 1996 redesign. Like other dualsport bikes, the dr650 is a bit of an ugly duckling, a way of approaching one's riding life. They are dead simple and based on decade[s] old ... read more

Pros: Thrifty to buy, insure, & feed, great bike!!
Cons: Seat from Marquis de Sade

Summary: I bought a 2004 model and have logged almost 4,000 miles. Excellent power on the road, cruising easily at 80 mph and runs up to an indicated 100mph, gets buzzy beyond 85 mph though . Gas mileage varies from 49mpg under hard riding in town to a high of ... read more

    Sep 26, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Power, looks and utility
    Cons: A bit heavy

Summary: After being off bikes (both dirt and street) for nearly ten years, I got off the fence and got back on the seat. I bought the bike new, so it's still breaking in. It complains a bit very low throttle settings with a chug and lug but has plenty of ... read more

Summary: After owning an '85 KLR600, thought I'd step up. I weighed the pros and cons of the KLR650, XR650L, and DR650. I did not like the looks of the XR650L because of the oil pump adjacent to the left side of the cylinder - so I discounted it almost ... read more

    Feb 17, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Cheap, easy to maintain, fun
Cons: Needs pipe and re-jet, limited accessories available

Summary: Big dual-purpose thumpers are FUN. Street or dirt, wheelies, hopping curbs, you name it. This is a great way to add some "points" to your drivers license. I ended up trading my DR for a more street-worthy bike but I do miss the DR at times. From the ... read more
