Pros: Economy, handling, mid-sized power Cons: Fuel capacity, seat comfort
I bought my 2000 VS-800 in October 2003 when it had 1954 miles on it, and I have not been sorry. My previous riding experience was minimal and many years ago, so I was determined to buy a mid-sized bike to get some experience under my butt before ...
Pros: great looks, stable smooth ride, high quality manufacture and generally very well engineered Cons: no storage, poor helmet lock, servicing difficulties, unreliable fork-lock, for smaller riders not behemoths
OK I am smaller than most of my biker cohorts (5'6"/160lbs) and this has made buying the right bike difficult. I am sick of feeling I am on the wrong horse. That is one of the reasons why I have been ecstatic since getting my '87 Intruder. This is a ...
Pros: Dependable, affordable, original styling. Cons: Small gas tank, too light for big folks.
My wife has a 2003 Suzuki Intruder. It's basically the same bike as the 2000, so I've included the review here. We've put over 3,500 miles on this bike in the last year and have found it to be reliable and enjoyable to ride. The seat is comfortable, ...
Pros: Extremely quick, light, great looking Cons: feels loose in the corners at first.
As I am typing this I am looking across at my 87' Suzuki Intruder and wishing it wasn't 40 degrees and sleeting. OK I have ridden in 40 degree temp's before but slush and freezing rain and quick bikes shouldn't mix. Speaking of mixing, I will now share...
Pros: Power, Engineering, Chrome Cons: Peg Placement, Some call it 'dated'
The VS800 Suzuki Intruder is a great all around bike. It has plenty of power. I have ridden many types of bikes over the years and this little (if you want to call this bike little – I wouldn’t) 800 pulls harder than most 1100 cc or larger bikes....
Pros: Hot-rod power, gorgeous looks, good handling, very reliable Cons: Small tank
Having owned more sporty bikes in the past, when I went shopping for a cruiser for daily use I didn’t want something big, heavy, and with the elephant-like handling of most cruisers. Instead I wanted something with cruiser styling but real power, light...
Pros: Comfortable for smaller people (under 6 feet, under 160 lbs.) Cons: Small gas tank.
This is my second Intruder 800. I've owned a 1994 and 1995. Both in the black with blue metal-flake paint scheme. I think Suzuki has made two minor styling mistakes with the later models. First, you can't go wrong with basic black. To my knowledge,...
Pros: Nice looks
Shaft Drive
Overall reliable
Cons: Three speedometer cables in 55,000 miles
Clutch starts to slip after 15,000
High speed wobble
This is my fourth Suzuki. I've been pleased by the shaft drive (the other three were chain drives), but the handling and reliability have been lacking. And, when I've needed to get replacement parts from Suzuki, the wait has often been interminable. At ...
Pros: Great looks, more power than a cruiser needs to have Cons: Seat, small gas tank
I bought my bike used, in 2004, and it is a 2001. The bike only had 1,700 miles on it. Super bike. It has torque to burn. Speed limit is somewhere in excess of any sensible riding, I needed 85 once, and it got there from 60, in less than the length ...
Pros: Quick, slick ride. Nice acceleration, decent aftermarket upgrades. Cons: Small tank, a bit of a production for some routine maintenance.
I really like this bike. I bought it used with some aftermarket pipes, and they give it a nice rumble. One up riding is what the bike is made for, but it still handles quite well with my rather tiny wife on the back.
Pros: Great Looking, Easy to Ride Cons: Small Fuel Tank, Hates the Cold
After not having driven for 20 years I decided to get back into the saddle again. Armed with some advise on buying a used bike that I acquired from the internet I set out on my mission. The first bike I saw was a 1996 Teal Suzuki Intruder 800. I fell in...
Pros: Excellent Styling, Great Reliability, Light Weight & Lots Of Power, Low Price Cons: 3.2 Gal Tank Gives Limited Cruising Range, Feels "Squirrelly" In Corners At First
I've had my 98 Intruder 800 for a year now, and would not trade it for anything else I have seen on the market today, save for a 2002 Intruder. Being Only 5'8" and 135 lbs, seat height and a light weight were both factors that I had to consider in my...
Pros: Great looks, quick throttle response Cons: narrow front tire
I bought my intruder 800 new, last year, and without even test-riding it. I really liked the looks, and after I rode it was even more pleased with it's performance and smooth ride. It has great pick-up, even in fifth gear. I am not really tall so it's...
Pros: Easy ride, powerful, eyecatching style Cons: battery & ac a tough reach
I've owned this bike for 6 months and I love it. '95 low chopper style cruiser with a 21" razor thin front tire makes this bike stand out from the rest. After market pipes give it just the right rumble...looks and sounds much bigger. The seat and pull...
Pros: Good ride/Handling Cons: Haven't found any yet
I was originally going to purchase a Harley. But the price for what they wanted was more than I wanted/could go for. I went to the shop to have my Yamaha 650 fitted for new shoes and there it was, the Intruder 800. I was instantly impressed with it's...
Pros: Good power, killer looks Cons: Poor stock seat, Cramped when 2 up
I bought this bike new in Dec. '94. I knew the price range I wanted, and I knew a great deal about bikes in general (I'm a gearhead, and I've been riding for 17 years.) This is probably the best bike Suzuki has ever made. I have never...
Pros: Price and ride Cons: Suzuki design makes it difficult to work on yourself
I bought my Intruder in the summer of 1999, 15 days after completing the MSF rider course at the local community college... and I have loved it ever since.
The bike in light weight and nimble and has a great ride and feel to it. It lays over...
Pros: Incredible power and agility. Great look! Cons: Small gas tank leaves you looking for a fill at 90 miles.
I have been riding for just under two years. I started with the (MSP) Motorcycle Safety Program and purchased a 1994 Honda Nighthawk 250. While I loved the zippiness and incredible gas mileage, comfort and power for two was definitely lacking. I...
Pros: Power...looks...Suzuki reputation, its
got it all!! Cons: Haven't found any???
I have owned other Suzuki bikes and autos and this just
continues in the Suzuki tradition of offering much for
your money with top notch reliability....love the bike!!
The main 'con' that I have found is about the skinny front
...
The sun beats down on the hot pavement as I slip into my leathers. Helmet and gloves are on and I am ready to go. I sadly hoist myself onto my '93 Suzuki Intruder 800 and prepare for the last ride of the season.
This motorcycle caught my eye the...
Pros: Smooth ride, lots of power, good mpg,
very comfortable great looks Cons: Small tank, hard seat
Should have bought one sooner, Literally
Ive had several other bikes, this one beats them all.
loads of power and loads of fun. I have looked around for a bike that was lightweight with a low seat but still had power and this is it. I have...
Pros: Good over all bike for anyone. Cons: Exhaust burns
I bought a used Intruder 800, with 1500 miles on it and I fell in love with it. The 800 had all the features that I was looking for in a bike.
Disk brakes, shaft drive, comfortable seat, good looks and response. The 800 was well balanced and had...
Pros: great looks, quick and nimble, shaft drive, water cooled. Cons: preset too lean from factory, smallish front tire
My 2001 intruder 800 has got to be the best looking bike on the road. I originally went shopping for the Yamaha V-star custom, but kept going back to the intruder. I just could not take my eyes off it. My comfort level with the low profile seat is quite...
Pros: has fantastic takeoff and gets good gas mileage , handles curves well Cons: foot pegs too far back, need one more gear for top end highway driving
The 800 Intruder i had was used,it got around 50 miles per gallon. This bike had awesome takeoff hand ...
Pros: Nice handling with ample amount of factory chrome. Cons: Very small gas tank. 125 mile tank range, not a touring bike from the factory.
I recently purchased this bike from a co-worker of my wife. He slightly customized it with drag bars, shorter racing mirrors, six inch risers, and low pro lights. It also has a leather tank cover which I like. It has 20k miles on it and stills runs like...
Pros: good price, excellent stability Cons: vibration at high speeds
I bought my '96 Suzuki Intruder 800 1 year ago. She was my first street bike and I am glad I picked this one. I had looked at allot of other bikes in the same class by different manufactures but fell in love with the suzuki right away. It has a great...
Pros: Lots of style for the money, high quality.Great around town bike. Cons: Awfully underpowered on the highway, too small gas tank, narrow front tire is tricky.
You have to love the looks, especially for the price.Slip on some louder exhaust and a jet kit and this is a great bar hopper bike.On the highway at 60-65 mph this bike is screaming for a sixth gear though. The high revving on the highway also drains the...
Pros: Looks, power, handling, low maintaince. Cons: Stock tires, small gas tank, seat can be uncomfortable.
I got a 1999 Suzuki Intruder VS800 as my first bike recently. Not really having anything else to compare it to, other than the 250cc that I rode in my Motorcycle Training Course, I thought that it had more power than I would ever need in a bike. Also, ...
Pros: Great Looks, great handling, great gas mileage, plenty of power, absolutely fun to ride Cons: None that I can think of because of its reliability everytime I get on it.
Great styling and handeling. I have had this bike for 8 years now and it is the Best street machine I have ever ridden. Not only is this bike absolutely beautifull, the low center of gravity, for a short legged rider like me makes this bike handel like a dream. The only thing I have had to replace after 20,000 miles is the battery and a new set of tires. The Mikuni carbs have never had to be serviced and I have gotten as high as 55 miles per gallon on it when I obey the speed limits. I have gotten so many comments from bikers and non-bikers that this is great looking bike, that I have lost count. I've owned about a Dozen street bikes in my life, and I would'nt trade this bike for any other bike out there.
Pros: Fast,dependable,50 MPG,look Cons: seating not comfortable
If You want a harley like looking bike and harley like sounding bike but You don`t wana pay the price You buy Intruder. Very fast and dependable bike. It is also loud and everybody knows You are there. I just love it. I bought it when it had 20,000 mil and now it has 36,000 and never broke down.
1986 Intruder VS700GLPG by lynnsorensen ,Oct 09 '06
Pros: Beautiful maroon paint, great lines, minimal maintenance. Cons: None.
I paid $3,467 cash out the door for this one owner maroon beauty in 4/87. This included optional saddle bags and a chrome cover for the radiator. I currently have 9,600 miles on her in 10/06. I have probably spent more money on insurance and registration than anything else. I found that I needed to replace the battery about every four years. Other than that the maintenance has been minimal.
My wife and I have had great times driving up and down Pacific Coast Highway in SoCal with no complaints. I never thought I would see the day that I put her up for sale. But I bought myself a 2000 MB SL500 that I truly enjoy. It's time to move on
She will be sold to a young guy tomorrow who I hope will take as good a care of her as I have.
Pros: Powerful, reliable, easy up-keep, looks chopperish, shaft drive, handles well. Cons: Handle bars are too small, foot pegs, no back-kick shift lever, 2.7 gal tank.
I've been the proud owner of a VS800 intruder for about a year now and have put about 5k miles on it. With a dry weight of about 440lbs and a 803cc engine, even with my 230lbs butt sitting on the back, she'll still get up and move. I get about 45 MPG when I ride like a responsible cyclist. However, one of the things that I would change change, is the foot peg placement. The peg bracket is held in place by 8-1/4" Allan bolts fixed to the frame at almost a 45 degree angle from the seat. Being 6'1, I find it a little uncomfortable, after about 40 miles, having my feet back and knees up.
My question for anyone who knows is: can you find aftermarket foot peg brackets and an extended gear shift lever for this model bike?
I love my Suzuki Intruder by senorcosta ,Mar 22 '06
Pros: F-A-S-T, great looking and above all....reliable. Cons: The seat sucks, its hard as a rock.
I bought a 2001 with 1,500 miles on it for $3500 in 2004. The only mods I did is to put Vance & Hines Classic II mufflers on it (someone had removed the baffles on the originals) and added some extra padding on the seat. Get an AirHawk and/or Alaska Leather seat and its fine. Gas tank is small but it'll go 100 miles plus before filling.
I am 6', 200 lbs and it has PLENTY of juice for me and my 130 pound wife. Its beautiful, its fast, its reliable, its affordable and its a smooth shaft ride. What more do you want out of a bike?
I plan on keeping this bike forever. My guess is that with proper care, I'll get 60-70,000 miles out of it.
PS to all: Please take the Motorcycle Foundation classes whether you are a newbie or experienced. RIDE SAFE!
Just what I needed... After a long day at the office. by tandj25 ,May 04 '07
Pros: Light, handles well,Stylish, lots of chrome. Cons: Small gas tank, cold blooded.
I bought my Suzuki Intruder 800VS in April 2007. It is the perfect bike for me and my wife.It has a lot of power for a small to mid sized bike. It looks stunning and we get a lot of compliments on it from everyone one we meet along the way.It handles nice and is easy to maneuver.I am a fairly small guy,as is my wife, but the pegs could be positioned a little bit better. The gas tank could be bigger as well, but for us to go 120 miles, usually we are ready for a little break anyways,so it really isn't and issue.I find the bike is cold blooded, but I start it before I put on my leathers, and usually it is ready to go by the time I am.My wife and I have a rode a few other cruisers,(Suzuki Boulevard C80) and she seem to like being closer to me,gets less wind when cuddled up to me. Over all I would recommend this bike to anyone. It is forgiving, nimble and handles to me anyways very well for the bike it is.
Pros: Good looks, smooth ride, lots of power, low maintenance. Cons: Small gas tank, battery hard to get to, air filters take time to change out.
I've had plenty of bikes over the years and I have to say this is fast, reliable, and good looking... and my favorite. Owners need to keep the oil changed regularly since the clutch is a wet-sump and dirty oil causes rough shifting. Also, never use oil additives...they cause the clutch to slip. Mine is a '96 I bought slightly used in excellent condition. Changing air filters is not as easy as some and the battery is difficult to access...a brick under the kick stand is the trick here. The bike is great for around town and short trips. Gas tank is small. The bike has plenty of power and is smooth even for a v-twin. The power to weight ratio explains why the 800 is faster than the 1400. The 800 engine is liquid cooled but the cooling fins do such a good job the cooling fan almost never comes on. I'm 60 years old and this bike is probably the last one I'll have to buy. Keep the battery terminals tight and the oil fresh and this bike will run forever.
Pros: seat height, weight, handle bar width, foot pegs, good pick up Cons: front brake make a noise when applied
I am 4' 11 & 1/2' tall, and I swear this bike was made for me!! I love it. Because I am so short it took me a very long time to find one for me to ride, with the big boys without getting left behind. I wouldn't trade it for the world!!
