Yamaha V Star-Very Good Actor for a V Twin ( 650 cc)

by DarbyWalters Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 10 '00
Pros: good looks, great price, economical, great starter bike
Cons: braking, buzzy at high speeds, needs more power and gearing
I purchased this bike in August 1999. I waited until I was over forty to buy a bike for a couple reasons. I have raced cars and carts for 22 years and I did not want to fall for motorcycle racing. I also felt that buying a cruiser would temper my riding...

by rickwatkins , Oct 07 '00
Pros: great looks. good handling and ride
Cons: passenger seat is not comfortable
I just purchased a 2000 Yamaha V Star Custom 650. I had a few small bikes when I was considerably younger. I was looking for a bike that I could use to commute to work when the weather is nice. I think the V Star custom will do this well. I also plan...

Not a Harley!?

by WeyrTJD , Jun 20 '02
Pros: Great look, smooth ride, low cost
Cons: No spin off oil filter, high pitched shaft whine
When I first began shopping for a motorcycle 4 months ago, my only goal was to get a Harley Davidson Sportster 1200. However, after a few months of going to dealerships and looking at prices I realized just how much the Harley name gets marked up. So I...

A Nice Step Up - Update

by dwiegal , May 22 '02
Pros: Great looks, very nice ride, large capacity tank and good price
Cons: noticeable vibration at 60 mph
I owned a Yamaha 535 Virgo for a couple of years before getting my V-Star 650 custom. The Virago was a great bike for around town, but I wanted something more substantial for taking some out of state rides. I had read up on the Honda Shadow and the ...

by mcboy , Aug 23 '01
Pros: Great looks, Great price, Very nice starter bike, Great city cruiser
Cons: Needs more power, not a long trip mc
I had been planning on buying a motorcycle for about a year. I am into cruisers and of course Harley are the king of cruisers (at least what image goes) Since I am not a tall person (175cm) I figured that I probably should not go for one of the big HD's....

2002 V Star Custom & Silverado

by pculin , Feb 17 '02
Pros: Lots 'o bang for the buck, great styling, super balanced, wide range of accessories.
Cons: A tad small for tall riders. Poor placement of read brake pedal.
Let's get a few things straight from the start. I'm a 43 year old software engineer and I have no aspirations of being a bandana-biker. "American iron" would be swell, but the idea of making a monthly payment on a motorcycle that is in the same price...

Great Cruiser for commuting

by spacepro , Jul 31 '09
Pros: Sweet looks, low to the ground, lightweight, great gas mileiage and manuevering, long wheelbase
Cons: Gets "buzzy" at higher speeds, rear turn signals are too far foward
I have a 2001 V Star Custom, but there are no differences other than the year built.  I've had this bike for over a year and was very impressed with the looks of the bike.  It has a "bobber" look, with small fenders and shotgun exhaust pipes ...

Pros: great looks, great comfort
Cons: "whines" at higher speeds, braking
My boyfriend recently purchased a 2000 V Star Custom motorcycle. I fell in love with it the moment he brought it home. It is a big bike with great eye appeal. He fell in love with it because of the reasonable price for a powerful engine and great...
