Dual Purpose bikes used to always be considered a compromise bike. Not real good for the street or the dirt. This one is cut out more for the dirt. If you really need to go somewhere, it's street legal. But I don't think you are real safe on it in the...
Pros: Durable, cheap to run, handles well. Suspension is best for off-road use. Cons: Limited fuel range, handlebars bend easily. Higher maintenance than seems reasonable.
This bike was bought by myself new for $5200 CAD in June 2004, when I learned to ride it. I've only put on 8200kms due to some wipeouts that have prevented me from riding on occasion. I am 6'3" tall and usually weigh 210lbs, so take this into ...
Pros: affordable, easy to own, good power, easy to ride, FUN!! Cons: rear disc brake, starting in cold weather
This is a perfect entry-level bike for a shorter rider who likes riding dirtbikes but also wants to ride on the street. This is the answer! It's not a big thumper, but it's quick and agile and easy to ride, even if you have little riding experience. I...
Pros: e-start, bullet proof motor, tried and true design Cons: not fashionable or trendy
Out of dirtbiking for 20 years, I recently bought a New "old stock" 2001 XT 225 to chase my 9yoa step son on his TTR 125. I guess Santa was good to both of us. I was skeptical of the "little" 225, as I come from a motocross background (years ...
Pros: Price, Quality, Acceleration, top speed, everything Cons: nothing
hi, my name is mike and i am a 14 year old guy from ohio. I love to ride motorcycles! I have a 1999 XT225! Let me tell u it is the best dual purpose bike that u can buy. I have never gotten stuck in the off road, and beleive me it is a wonder that i...
Pros: Great off road bike and good commuter, easy to handle and really indestructable. Cons: Not really for the highway. Not a bike for an experienced off road rider.
I bought a 2000 XT225 a month ago, used, with only 29 miles on it.
Before buying it, I did careful research, reading reviews and checking out other bikes. I decided it was the perfect bike for me. What I needed was a good off road bike that I...
Pros: Fun bike to bomb around on. Seems well built. Cons: No starting after sitting for a week. Seat uncomfortable. Signal light switch weird
Decided on this bike because all the other Dualsport bikes are to tall and I like to be able to reach the ground. The bike is quite peppy on take off, but does have it moments of being gutless. My old two stroke DT Yamaha had more life in it. This bike ...
Pros: Fun, economical, light weight, low seat height, beginner friendly, electric start, on road/off road capable. Cons: Small storage compartment doesn't lock, cold starting sometimes difficult, not recommended for highway speeds.
I bought a 2004 Yamaha XT225 in July of 2004 and have about 10 months and 1,500 miles of experience on it. So far I am very happy with it and continue to enjoy every ride. Most of my riding is on paved secondary roads. It is much more comfortable at speeds under 50 M.P.H., but will handle occasional highway runs. It is not a highway cruiser. If you are looking for a fun, economical, "go anywhere" motorcycle for around town, street or trail riding, then you should look into this model. It is especially appropriate for beginner riders and those requiring a lower seat height. It is light weight and reportedly has the lowest seat height of any "dual sport" motorcycle. Although it is recommended as a beginner bike, experienced riders can have a ball on it too.
Pros: Appeals to women Cons: Heavy, bad carb design, underpowered
My wife chose this bike due to its style, size, street legal, in that order. It is a very easy bike to ride, but is plaqued with a horrible carburetor design that also plagued her old TW200. She doesn't ride the bike often, and the carb becomes gummed up way too easily. It's very annoying that half the time she does decide to ride it that she can't because it simply won't start. In my opinion the bike is very heavy for what it is, and the design is very outdated. I also think the bike is very underpowered for having a 200 cc engine.
Pros: Low seat height, light weight, street legal but good on the dirt too Cons: Not enough power for experienced riders, not for hwy usage
After taking a generic bike rider's safety course, I bought this bike to continue learning on. I'm short (5'3) and not that strong, and this bike turned out to be the perfect beginner's bike. I wanted to be able to learn out on the dirt but ride on the street as I started to get more comfortable, and this bike performs well on both.
There are a couple of other bikes in this class by other manufacturers, but this is the best looking!
another kind of super-model dirt bike! by norkis_yamaha ,Jun 18 '05
Pros: super power to beginners. Might embarrassed the larger bikers due to its agility. Cons: over heat when immediate acceleration is engaged.
Easy-riding bike. Very comfortable because of its good power-band and low seat height. It has excellent torque, climbs well, and is comfortable enough to ride for hours. The only problem I have experienced is that it feels like not starting in a cold weather. Overheating is also experienced when immediate acceleration is engaged. The size and horsepower are not frightening for a beginning or smaller rider, and for more advanced riders, you might be surprised how easy it is to ride, it is capable of embarrassing much larger bikes with a capable rider due to it's agility and tractability. But I would recommend to change the rear drum brake into a disk so that stopping power will be more appreciated.
Pros: electric start, good for on and off the roads, lots of power Cons: hard to start in the cold
this bike is good on the road and off! it has lots of power ive got 160 165 km/h out of mine its really good riding. if there was a kick start it would be alot better starting in the cold. lately ive put gas in the plugs when the bike was cold and it started really well. this bike is cheep and very good for starters. this bike is also the same as the ttr-225 both really good bikes and can show up a KLR 250 liquid coold. the xt-225 also has a power plant which makes it real fast!!
